Suspect – by Robert Crais

Posted on 01/21/202603/27/2026 by Mark Lieberman

I have now read all of Robert Crais’s books, and I am a bit sad to say goodbye, but am really hoping a new book will be released this year.

This one is about Officer Scott James, and his K9 dog named Maggie.

One thing I like about Crais’s style of writing is he takes the point of view from different characters, and Maggie is one of them.

We learn about Maggie’s prior handler who, unfortunately, died during a combat mission and Maggie was shot. Flash forward, and we learn how Maggie and Scott came to be.

A murder happens to Scott’s partner and Scott survives (barely), but with the help of another police detective, and of course, Maggie, nine months later, new details emerge. I will admit, and tell you that I was bit confused with so many names doing this and that, but I still finished it and obviously enjoyed the action.

Yes, Scott and Maggie were in one of the Cole and Pike books. I like them as a pack as they work very well together.

So, now that I am done, my favorite Crais characters are (in no particular order):
Cole
Pike
Stone
Chen
Carol Starkey
Scott and Maggie
Jeff Talley
