Warm Things (that don’t SPONSOR me…yet)

Posted on 01/18/202601/31/2026 by Mark

It’s cold, and snow has been on the ground since Thanksgiving. But, I am very glad that I have warm things, and I don’t have to suffer. It’s not like we don’t use the heat and fireplace, we do, but we don’t maximize them. If I have to go outside to get mail or place trash cans on the curb, I have to wear my Columbia snow boots and a jacket! I did take a short walk on Friday outside (it was snowing very lighlty) and had to step carefully in my Hoka’s around ice patches.

In the basement is my home office, and that room is cold, so I have a space heater on my desk blowing at my face. The rest of the basement is cold as well, so maybe in preparation for next year, we will see what options we have available to make it warm. Everything in the basement is finished (expect one small room, and we have been using that room for extra pantry supplies, and other miscellaneous things). Last weekend, I rearranged a few things to make better use of the space for Niko.

We all have new Macy’s comforters. Well, Nina and Niko have new ones, and I got Nina’s old one from like 2005! I got a cheap one from Amazon, and returned it as it wasn’t warm.

I have lots of long sleeve Threads4Thought shirts, SmartWool shirts, and quite a few sweatshirts and hoodies (some of those are branded with the HealthEquity logo). I got a whole drawer of socks. Nina and Niko prefer the handmade socks. I have lots of old and new sweatpants, and most of those the spring has come off. I can’t even remember that last time I wore shorts and a short sleeve t-shirt. We have electric gloves and electric pocket warmers, yeah, I am serious. Nina also made warm beanies that we all use. Before we moved to Minnesota, Nina got us all heavy winter jackets from Patagonia. My Texas winter jacket from Lands End is now my fall jacket. I have a pair of UGG slippers and Minnetonka boot, and they keep my feet warm.

Lastly, our car has butt warmers in the front!

Lastly, and really lastly this time, Nina made soup yesterday, and I have been gulping it up!
