Last Tuesday, Niko’s school had a late start in the morning due to ice on the road, and about an hour or so after we got that notification through a text message and an email, they canceled school that day and told us it would be an “E-Learning Day”. I am very glad that here in Minnesota, they don’t expect us to brave the weather. We had a snow delay a few weeks ago.
I felt bad about waking him up that morning, and didn’t see the communication till after I woke him up at 6 am. Well, next time we have weather like that for a school morning, I will check before I wake him up.
So, for the “E -Learning Day” the school provided a list of different activities as ideas (he didn’t have his Chromebook). He chose (with a little help from Nina), an obstacle course, a bridge built out of something that can withstand something heavy on it, and design your own board game.
Obstacle Course
His idea was similar to The Floor is Lava, where he had to jump from different places in the living room (we had towels on the floor, a box, a coffee table, and the sofa). He did it twice, and one of those times, he crawled under the coffee table. It was fun seeing him do it. We took some photos and videos and sent them to his teacher. Separately and a few minutes before his obstacle course, we got a very nice note from his gym teacher so we sent her some pictures as well.
Bridge
A can of tuna was the heavy object, and he used his magnetic tiles to build it, and it held. He has always enjoyed building with the tiles, and his engineering building mind is fun to watch. He builds really elaborate things.
Board Game
This is still being worked on, but he drew and numbered a curvy line (with a starting and finishing line). He then cut small pieces of paper and started to number them from 1 to 10 (10 times). I am excited to see how it will end up.
