Even though we don’t let Niko use our phones to play games or watch videos; which I personally think is wrong for children, we do let him see videos or pictures of himself. He enjoys pushing buttons! Hey, he is a 20 month old baby; 21 month old tomorrow, and pushing buttons where something happens is so awesome for him right now. Tomorrow, it could be something else, like building blocks or drawing; wait, he does that now as he is a great multitasker.
It’s really fun to watch him concentrate on the image; doesn’t matter if it’s a young or an old Niko!
He is more familiar with our phones than we are. Sometimes he does something and I have no clue how to undo it. Dude, he even figured out to send an SOS message; that is a text, a short audio clip, and a map! We eventually turned that function off because our contacts who received them weren’t sure if it was real or a false alarm.
We used to put the phone on selfie mode and start a video and let Niko run wild with the phone; I must say, some of his movies are very entertaining. He used to love taking selfies with us and would allow us to photograph him, but now he just wants NIKO! I don’t blame him; I mean, he is a good looking kid – it runs in the family!
Nina and I also have smartwatches; although hers is more smarter than mine, and Niko likes to play with hers. I get text messages and calls throughout the day from Niko; most of them I can’t understand, but I do love hearing his soft voice say hello.
Now, it’ not like he is constantly playing with our phones. It’ mainly used to relax him. And, I know when to stop and put it away. So, if you happen to come over to our house, I will advise you to put your phone away and turn your sounds off! Thank you.
