I notice when I am out in the world, most people tend to be doing something on their phones. Me, on the other hand, can be perfectly happy with my phone in my pocket and my Kindle in my hand reading a book. I can easily be distracted by the words on the screen and be totally unaware of anything happening around me.
I bring my Kindle everywhere I may have to wait for something and that includes the pick-up line at my son’s school. I just wish I can tell everybody how amazing the book is that I am currently reading when I am out, but I know they don’t care and just want to keep playing on their phones.
I wish that when you put a hold on a book at the local library, you could be connected to the other people waiting. And, sometimes, it’a a random book in a series (not the first or the last), and somebody else is reading it. I would love to chit-chat about that book either you are reading or are waiting for.
I don’t have anybody in my very small circle of friends that I can sit down with and chat about the most recent books I have read. Nina, my wife, will listen, but only to a certain point as she has different tastes of books than me. My parents have a very short attention span with my books I read as they are more interested in Niko, my son. And, Niko will listen as well, but he has no clue in what I am talking about unless it’s about Percy Jackson or Diary of a Wimpy Kid (he listens to those books).
I do enjoy sharing my reviews on Goodreads and several Facebook groups, and always love it when I get comments for potential new books for me to read (of which, most I add to my want to read list). Although, most of the books on that list haven’t been released yet (I do that so I don’t forget about them). I usually find those on Netgalley or on the Apple book app as I scan through the upcoming releases every few weeks.
