On the weekdays; Monday thru Friday, I only see Niko for about 2 hours when I come home from work. I feed him dinner, play with him for a few minutes, get him ready for his nighttime bath, and get him in the crib for nighttime. No complaints from me as I love it.
On the weekends; Saturday and Sunday, I get a lot of Niko because Nina gets him all week alone and she also works from home. Plus, she spoils us as she loves to cook and that is always done on the weekends. Hey, I like too eat and I don’t mind cleaning up her mess. No matter what is; when Niko sees me eating, he wants a piece and of course, I have too give him some! This past weekend, she made cookies, bread, meat sauce, pancakes, chocolate pudding, rice pudding, rice crispy treats, and fried chicken with sesame sauce. We don’t have a lot of countertop space in the kitchen, but she somehow finds enough room for everything. I praise her a lot! We definitely need a bigger kitchen and that is something we look for as we house shop.
Weekend dad gets to feed Niko all of his meals; I can’t say 3 because he snacks all day; I get to play with him; we draw, build legos, and read books; I get to change his diapers; I get him ready for his nap; I get him ready for his nighttime bath; and I get him in the crib for nighttime. It’s fun because when we do something that he enjoys and I ask him if wants to do it again; and in his baby voice, he says yes! I have more fun playing with his legos than he does; I build robots and buildings and in less than a second he tears it apart piece-by-piece or he throws it. Niko has a lot of books at his discretion; thanks mostly to his Uncle Evan. I enjoy reading to him; especially when he picks them. Most of the time, when we tell him to find a certain book, he will find it! Yes, he has his favorites! Again, no complaints from as I love it.
Don’t worry, weekend Nina gets her fair share of Niko; or shall I say her boobs do! Sometimes, Niko gets upset and the only cure is momma cuddles. It makes me feel like I am not doing my job as a father, but then after a second, I realize, I am doing a perfect job as he is only 20 months old and learning so much stuff daily.
This week, I was off on Monday for MLK Day and Tuesday and Wednesday, I was home because of ice on the roads. In Texas, we aren’t prepared for ice and snow so basically the entire city shuts down! On those 3 days, it was weekend dad.
Yes, its hard and tiring work and I don’t have much time for myself. Recently when he naps, I have been napping also and it feels great. Sometimes, sleep beats eating and writing. The only time I really get alone is after I put Niko to sleep as Nina hangs out in the bedroom and I come downstairs to clean everything up, eat dinner, and write.
