Niko’s Story
On Thursday, I was looking for water guns on Amazon, and none of them appealed to me. Then I went down the Amazon slide and looked at nerf dart guns. I saw one I wanted, and my parents reluctantly said yes. It was not a nerf brand – it was an X-Shot Insanity Mad Mega!!! The order was placed and it said to be delivered on Friday.
I was so exited for it that I woke up super early on Friday. All day, I kept taking my dad’s phone to check the status, and saw that it wasn’t shipped yet, but somehow it said it was arriving on the same day. But that was a big lie.
Yesterday, my dad and I went to Target. My dad had already been to that same Target earlier that morning and we got the exact same parking spot. He felt bad that I was waiting patiently and offered to see if Target had something we can get right away. I am glad that Target is very close, not unlike where we used to live (where it could take 30 to 45 minutes). New Target is less than 10 minutes away! We got two nerf gun blasters, extra darts, a sandwich (because I like to eat), and popcorn (because it smelled really good).
The X-Shot finally arrived yesterday, but we didn’t open it and my dad returned it. I was disappointed, but half was thinking my dad would change his mind, and let me have it.
When we got home, we unboxed the nerf blasters in the basement and I was so excited we forgot the extra ammo in the car. My dad and I straightened up the area (the cat spilled a puzzle box and the pieces went everywhere), and I built a tile house that I enjoyed knocking down.
The Dad’s Story
That Friday morning wake up call was way too early for me. I know he woke up at 3 am, 4:30 am, and 6:30 am, and I don’t think he went back to sleep after the 3 am. I actually took a day off that day, but had requested it the day before and not the day off because I was tired. Although, later in the day, I did get a nap and that was very well deserved. Niko came into the bedroom while I was out and grabbed my phone. I am glad I didn’t hear him and wake up because all other times, I can hear him throughout the house.
I wasn’t happy with the nerf gun, and after we got home, I gave him a very stern dad lecture…be careful with the darts (yes, I know they are soft), don’t shoot people or animals, and be aware of your surroundings (as we have glass things in the basement that can break).
I felt bad that I had to return the other one. I knew he was waiting for it and was looking forward to playing with it. He was frustrated with my decision. But, I wasn’t going to change my mind. I am the parent. He gets a lot of other things (like, a few weeks ago, he got a new iPad).
It’s funny because the one that got delivered, I hid it twice and he found it both times. I guess I need to find a better spot.
NOTE: Niko did write his part, but I edited it for grammar and verbiage.
