On Friday afternoon, Niko asked me if he could have a new iPad. I didn’t say no, but I also didn’t say yes – I said maybe. Now I will be talking about my iPad because, for the past few weeks, I have actually been thinking about trading in my iPad. I only use my iPad for watching my streaming apps.
I offered to give Niko mine as it’s a little bit better than his, and even though he tried it for a few hours on Saturday, he was adamant that he wanted a new one. I was a bit frustrated that he never gave mine a chance, but can see where he is coming from. I mean, he has always had an iPad that was purchased for either Nina or me. He has never had a new one. And, after I evaluated my trade in for my iPad and Apple Watch, it would only cost us a couple of hundred dollars. I will end up getting his iPad which I had originally purchased for myself in December of 2023.
So, after my maybe answer on Friday, Niko went into complete iPad research mode on Apple.com, and was looking at every single iPad – new and refurbished. I am glad he doesn’t know how to add payments!
On Saturday, we went to Best Buy so he could physically touch the one he was eyeing. I was able to look at new iPhones, as last Wednesday, I dropped my iPhone 11 Pro and cracked the screen. I ended up getting it fixed on Friday at a Batteries Plus store, but will probably get a new one next month.
Nina came with us as she wanted to look at new iPads as well, as she has been thinking about getting a smaller and lighter one than her iPad Pro.
We didn’t get a new one for Niko, but I know which one he wants and we will return next weekend after I get paid, so we can get it. Niko did pick out a case for his future new iPad.
I don’t want to hear you tell me, well, Mark, you should’ve said no, you are the dad. Hey, I tell him no a lot. But, Nina sent me a text on Friday evening that said next time something tech related comes up for Niko, we will tell him we will make the decision for him.
In a nutshell…
I trade in my iPad Air 5th generation, and get an iPad 10th generation that is a little bit bent from drops and I have to buy a new watch. Since I am an adult, if I choose to buy a new iPad for myself, I can do. I don’t need anybody’s permission.
Niko gets a brand new iPad Air.
Nina will either keep her iPad Pro or trade it in – it’s her choice.
Who wins? Obviously, it’s NIKO!!!!!
