Niko’s 2nd Football Game

Posted on 11/13/201704/19/2025 by Mark

In addition to being a daddy blogger, I am also a professional writer and photographer for high school football games; www.thestatmanspeaks.com. One of the teams I covered all last year and one game this season is the St. Anthony Yellow Jackets, a private Catholic school.

Here is an excerpt from that article:

When I first heard that St. Anthony would be hosting a playoff game at home this past Saturday, I knew I had to show up to  support them; I was really looking forward to it.  So, when I told my wife, she was excited because it would be a great opportunity to bring Niko, our 18-month old son, to the game.

I was also excited to bring them to the game and also not sure how Niko would fare since he hasn’t been napping great for the past few weeks; he hasn’t napped in the car in a few months.

Well, Niko slept for about 45 minutes on our drive down; traffic lights on Highway 281 woke him up.  I will say it was very nice having him and Nina with me at the game, even if Niko looked super tired.  And, yes, I was extremely distracted and wasn’t my normal self. Because of his tiredness, we left at Halftime.  The three of us got rejuvenated at Max and Louie’s New York Diner and were delighted to be joined by my Aunt Bobi, my mom’s sister, since she was leaving but when she saw us, she came back in.  And, then after we left, she went to sit with somebody else whom she knew.

Back to my daddy blog:

Overall, Niko played a good game.  He really needs to practice his tackling skills, he dropped several passes, he kept looking at the hottie in the stands, he missed some plays because he was busy drinking milk, he ran in the wrong direction because he was too busy spinning around and around, and he kept telling the coach no.  I was the prototypical dad and screamed at the coach and kept yelling at Niko telling him what do to. I ultimately was reprimanded by the officials and thrown into jail with all of the other dads where were forced to apologize to the moms.

He was so happy to be with us, he was happy to be outside as the weather was cloudy and lower 70s, he was happy to people watch, and he was happy to play with my media id and camera which I had them both around my neck. But, he was also really tired and that is why we left at halftime.
