Thanks to Netgalley for providing me this book to read and review before it’s officially published.
I knew his voice primarily from the show, Futurerama, so, yeah, when I saw this book, I was intrigued.
Billy’s childhood was very rough as he was physically and sexually abused. His dad was a drunk, and the primary influencer of being physical with his son (and siblings, and their mom).
Well, Billy overcame it and became very successful as a musician and a voice over actor. Oh, he has been sober for a long time and he also survived a cancer diagnosis.
I had no clue Billy West was a guitar player and got to play and meet some of his heroes (Brian Wilson and Jeff Beck). I have another not yet published biography about Jeff Beck from Netgalley that I want to read.
I had no clue he got started in the early days of Howard Stern as a featured voice performer.
As a voice over artist, he started slow and eventually ended up meeting people in the industry, and kept improving his repertoire of voices. If your’e curious, google him to see everything he has voiced because it’s a lot.
Of course, there are a lot of funny stories from the trenches (and he does give lots of praise and thanks to many other voice over artists and people who helped him along the way).
Overall, I enjoyed the book.
