Well, I am off from work all next and the following week, as I go back Friday, January 2nd. Last year at this same time, I was off, but it was because we moved. And, totally unexpected, I also had emergency surgery for a heart attack a few weeks before that move. Yeah, shit happened.
So, basically, this year, I am looking forward to the time off and not being in recovery mode or packing mode. Nina may have a few hours of work. Niko is also off for these two weeks.
I do have one meeting at work tomorrow, but it’s important and I told them that even though I am off, I will be available for it. It’s an information gathering meeting so we can have something we can provide to the CFO as we need his yes or no on something.
Last week, Niko was sick and he missed Tuesday through Friday. He did make it to school on Wednesday, but only lasted an hour before Nina picked him up. Stomach ache, headache, sore throat, and nausea with one small spell of vomiting and a few spells of diarrhea. I felt so bad for him and just want to cuddle with him all day and all night and make sure he is comfortable wherever he happens to be hanging out. Unlike a lot of prior times, he took medicine and followed our eating and drinking advice. On Wednesday, I had to run to the nearby grocery store for plain crackers and propel drinks. On Thursday morning, we got more Niko safe groceries delivered from another store. He missed a holiday party at school on Friday, where his classmates built gingerbread houses.
His teacher sent us a note on Friday hoping he feels better and if OK, can she drop off the gingerbread supplies so he can build something awesome during the break. I was like, yeah, that would be awesome. Niko put on fresh clothes, and had some candy and a drawing for her. When she arrived, they exchanged there things and we said thanks, and have a great trip (she is going overseas for a few weeks to visit family). He actually worked on his gingerbread house yesterday, and it came out absolutely perfect.
He is already feeling better, and I am glad because we can enjoy some time off. It seems to be common that he gets sick around holidays. Oh well, the life of a sick child and parents!
Nina told Niko and I that she needs to kick us out of the house sometime before Thursday so she can do some wrapping of presents and other things.
We are not religious, but celebrating Christmas is for Niko and the gifts. And, having a Christmas tree doesn’t bother me at all. I love seeing his happiness in decorating it. A few days ago, he took great pride in wrapping gifts we got for Nina. The tree itself is in our basement and we keep that door closed because if the cat sees it, the poor little tree will fall!
