Last Sunday, it was cold. So cold and cloudy. With precipitation. Add that up, and that afternoon, I saw something flying through the air and realized it was a snowflake! A few more snowflakes arrived. I sat on the couch and just watched as snowflakes flew downward. It was very surreal and pretty, and this Texan was absolutely mesmerized by the whole situation. When that first snow actually happens and it actually accumulates, I am looking forward to using our new Toro snow blower!
On Tuesday, I read a Facebook blurb about the possibility of seeing the Northern Lights from where we lived. I never thought I would ever get to see them in person, as I thought we needed to be a bit more North towards Canada and in a more dark place. But, nope. That evening, and after Niko was sleeping, I was glancing out my bedroom window and saw it. Then, I told Nina who earlier that day had a back shot, and she came walking slowly to see it. It was very beautiful. I then drifted downstairs and went on the back porch, and it was even more visible and more beautiful. I screamed softly to Nina to come outside, and she came down as slow as she could. We marveled at the lights and took lots of pictures. Like me, she never thought she would see the Northern Lights. Well, we saw them live. It was very beautiful in the front. It was supposed to be visible again the following night, but we didn’t see anything. It’s possible that it happened later in the evening when we were all sleeping. I kept hoping to see something so I can show Niko (we did show him the pics, and he wanted to see it live as well). During our nighttime routine, I kept glancing out all the upstairs windows hoping to see colors, but nope.
On Thursday morning, I went to CVS for a prescription pick-up, and afterwards, I drove to a park on the Mississippi River (which was less than 5 minutes away from CVS) for a walk. Now, this particular park is in Monticello, MN (which is about 10 minutes from our house). Every single time we go to Monticello, we have to drive over a bridge at the Mississippi River. Every single time, I marvel at the beauty of the river and think to myself, I really want to visit that park and walk along the riverbanks. Well, it finally happened and the walking trail itself wasn’t very long. But, the sights up close of the Mississippi was impressive and I even sat down for a second at a public dock and smiled to myself.
