In June, we moved from one of the hottest places in the USA to one of the coldest places in the USA! We are ready for snow, as we have lots of warm clothes and continue to buy more. We got a TORO snow blower delivered last Wednesday and I turned it on yesterday, and it works (no snow yet). The tires on the car are all season and the awesome folks at Discount Tire said they are in really good shape. We had our sprinkler system winterized a few weeks ago. Our heat and fireplace are ready to warm us up. We may buy a drying rack for the garage for wet and snowy clothes. I have never had a “mudroom” until now, and it’s actually roomy as we have the laundry machines, a full bathroom, and the fun room (Niko’s art room and Nina’s sewing room). A nice large coat closet is also in there and that holds our coats (duh, the name). While we were still in Texas, we got matching heavy winter jackets for us! My winter jacket I wore in Texas is now my fall jacket! My Lands End zip-up hoodie isn’t heavy enough as this past week, it’s been cold (no snow yet). Somebody really smart (my wife) told me to layer when it’s cold. Like, when I I wear my SmartWool branded shirts, wear something over it. She smart! Same goes for thermal underwear. We are still shopping for snow pants. On Friday, I got a new pair of blue jeans with fleece lining delivered. Yesterday, while at Target, we got a snow shovel for manual labor!
We have lots of lamps throughout the house, and Nina is buying more as I have heard from somebody smart that it stays darker longer here.
We purchased a sled at Costco last week, and I know Niko will love sledding down the hill in our backyard. Just hope he stops before the walking trail and the swamp! Heck, I will probably love it also! When Niko saw the sled in the car a few days ago, he asked me what it was and when I told him, he smiled and giggled.
Nina is working on packing a snow emergency kit for the car, just in case we get stuck somewhere. I am glad that Niko’s school is a relatively close drive for us, so it shouldn’t be too horrible in the morning and the afternoon. We may just have to leave a few minutes earlier.
Of course, when the first snow happens, I will take a million pictures.
In Texas, I have seen snow, I think, four times. One of those times, we lost power for several days and ended up throwing everything in the fridge and chest freezer in the trash. Not expecting that to happen in Minnesota, as they know how to handle it and have it done it many times.
When people ask why we moved, my answer is always tired of the hot. There answer is just wait for the Minnesota Winter!
