Wild and Crazy Guys: How the Comedy Mavericks of the ’80s Changed Hollywood Forever – by Nick de Semlyen

Posted on 02/01/202504/22/2025 by Mark

I was book-less for a few days as nothing I had available was appealing. Throughout my book browsing at the library and the Kindle store, I kept seeing this one. Well, I decided to give it a whirl as I like comedy movies!

This book is about Bill Murray, Chevy Chase, Steve Martin, Dan Aykroyd, Eddie Murphy, John Belushi, John Candy, and Rick Moranis and the movies (hits and flops) they made. A brief background introduction on the actors as well as tidbits from the movies from the key players are in this book. Personal relationships, family life, drugs, and ego are also discussed prominently.

A lot of the movies mentioned, I have seen and it was fascinating to read more about them.

My favorites in no particular order:

The Blues Brothers
Animal House
Caddyshack
Ghostbusters
Spies Like Us
Stripes
Spaceballs
National Lampoons Vacation
Beverly Hills Cop
Coming to America

I really enjoyed this book, and am already reading another book by the same author about the action stars.
