For the past few weeks, Niko has been complaining of his ankle hurting. Dr. Dad and Dr. Mom didn’t see anything visible on his foot, but we do believe him. Nurse Riley cat doesn’t know anything except for the fact that his shoes smell like feet, socks, and school and they have been outside. We told him that it could be growing pains and the fact that he needs new shoes.
So, yesterday, the three of us ventured to the Sketchers Outlet where Niko got two new pairs, Nina got a pair (the same as Niko but different size and she has already put something unique on hers, so we don’t get confused), and I got nothing (but, I did try on a few pairs).
I have a pair of ASICS that so far are doing a good job in my everyday life and my rehab. I was just curious as to how comfy the Sketchers brand was for walking, and the answer was adequate, but not enough for me to purchase a pair. If the need for a new pair arises, I will look to Nike, ASICS, and New Balance. Those brands have been really good to me over time. I also have a pair of Merrell’s, but I only wear them for short periods of walking. I do have a few more pairs of shoes, but I will stop as I don’t think anybody cares that I have a pair of rain shoes, winter shoes, wool shoes, sandals, and flip flops. If my math is correct as my statistician brain has been retired for a while now, I am counting seven pairs of shoes. How many are you in your closet?
I remember when I was much younger, my Aunt and Uncle would take me every year to Good Sports Outdoor Outfitters for a new pair of sneakers and price and brand were never questioned. I always chose Nike! I even had some where you could pump the air into the shoe and then release it, that was so cool and technologically advanced for that time (90’s).
Niko enjoyed trying on new sneakers as they have a lot of choices available. He made a spot for himself and for the ones he liked, they went into a slightly different spot as well as the ones he didn’t like. Nina was also trying on shoes and she also had some for her mother. All three of them had similar sizes, so I was confused. Niko should be up to my size tomorrow in shoes! I am just kidding, but it will be very soon as he is tall for his age and growing fast.
He remembered from last May, when he got new sneakers also from Sketchers (now, they are old and one pair, we threw in the trash as they were worn out on the inside), that they have a popcorn machine. Lo and behold, the popcorn machine was still there with fresh popped buttered popcorn, and Niko grabbed three bags (two for him and one for me). It was actually yummy, and when we arrived home, there were a bunch of popcorn crumbs on his seat. I brushed them off to the floor and made a mental reminder note to vacuum the car sometime today.
Niko wore his new sneakers to Target which was our next stop. Nina and I had a very important appliance to buy as our old one just died without any notice. Oh, you want to know what appliance I am talking about. Well, it was our 4-slicer toaster oven! We all use it daily as we all like toast as well as bagels when we have them. An Einstein Bros Bagels has opened up near us and I just happened to be driving by on there grand opening a few weeks ago, and of course, I had to stop and get bagels!
Back to Target, we got a new toaster oven, a poster board (as Niko needs it for school), and an ankle brace (which, later when we got home, Niko wore and it helped a little bit).
