Coming Home – by Britney Griner

Posted on 07/30/2024 by Mark

This book provided a lot of great insight on her Russian imprisonment and how she got through it. I am not going to go into detail, but she had lawyers who were constantly in touch and working on stuff behind the scenes and fellow inmates who helped translate Russian to English. She got to read and write letters to her loved ones, and the person she missed the most was her wife. Nothing was off limits as she told the brutal truths. She was a 6’9 professional basketball player, gay, black, and a woman in a Russian prison. Not ideal for anybody, especially her, but she survived and was able to get home. I knew she was traded for a Russian arms dealer that the USA was holding, but I didn’t know that they crossed paths and had a very short exchange on the tarmac.

After she got out, she got back into playing shape and continued her journey in the WNBA and on the US Women’s Basketball at the Paris Olympics.

I am glad I read this book, as I really enjoyed it.
