Father’s Day

Posted on 06/16/202404/19/2025 by Mark

Being a dad is the best thing I could’ve ever asked for, and I just love him so much.

For the longest time, Nina would hang out with him in his bedroom until he fell asleep. But, for the past few weeks, I have been doing it every other day. It’s a drastic routine change for everybody, as prior, I would do all the downstairs kitchen cleaning. But, now, we both do it on our non Niko nights. Nina and I work well together and often help each other out anyway we can to help save us a few minutes in the evening. I enjoy being in his room, and even though he is so sleepy and tucked in nicely, he is also really extra cuddly. A few nights ago, he had his arm across my chest as he was fake sleeping!

It’s funny that if I get something to eat whether it be at home or out in the world, sometimes, I have to double it as I know he will want some. On Wednesday morning, I made three fried eggs and had a piece of toast with tuna. I then made a great decision to throw an egg on the toast with tuna, and it was actually really good. So good, that Niko wanted it also! On Friday for lunch, I drove through Church’s Chicken, and I got an extra honey buttered biscuit. Of course, when I came home, Niko wanted that extra biscuit and some of my chicken, which I happily shared. He then made a great decision to dunk the biscuit and chicken in syrup! Yesterday, we went to Jamba Juice and in addition to our drinks, he got himself a hot sandwich (because, when we were there last week, I got a sandwich and he took a bite of it and liked it).

On Friday afternoon, he came downstairs wanting to do something. He told me he was going to look in the garage. For what, I never knew, but I followed him and I pointed to the hose. His face lit up with a huge smile and he shook his head yes. I told him to get a towel from upstairs and put your bathing suit on. By the time I got the hose unraveled and connected in the backyard, he was ready for a fun water excursion and I was happily snapping photos and videos of him, trying not to get drenched. He had an absolute blast spraying water everywhere and pouring water from a bowl on his head, and I was proud of myself for staying dry!

On his own accord, he drew something for me, and I was so impressed and filled with joy, that I got myself a frame for it. But, somebody has alway swapped it out for another homemade Niko drawing.

I am not sure what Nina got me for Father’s Day, but last night, Niko was looking through the kitchen cabinets, and found Oreos! Nina and Niko giggled, and I just gave up as I knew they were for me! See, I like Oreos, and for my birthday, she got me lots! They were gone fairly quickly, and I even looked in that same kitchen cabinet a few days ago hoping to see one box that I forget about. No wonder, she didn’t; want me to look at shopping list on Friday! So, she told me close my eyes and when I opened them, this is what was in front of me. I have already sampled the mint and peanut butter ones. Niko had some peanut butter ones for his treat last night, but he likes dunking them in milk.
