Spring Break 2024

Posted on 03/17/202404/19/2025 by Mark

Niko’s Spring Break was last week, and tomorrow he goes back to school. He won’t have anything exciting to tell his classmates or teacher of what he did and all the trouble he got it in on South Padre Island! Nope!

Because, he was sick. He took one dose of meds on Monday and when we tried to give him more, we gave up after several minutes (one night it was an hour) of screaming. Then he tells us, he feels better and doesn’t need meds. Without meds, we made sure he drank and got a lot of sleep, and when he is ready to eat, he will let us know. We had early bedtimes and early wake-ups as well.

It was nice that Nina was able to get her part time job completed by Tuesday, so she was able to be with him and cuddle him all day and week long!

He is actually doing better, and yesterday, I was able to get him out of the house for the first time in several weeks. At first, he was adamant that he didn’t want to go out because he was tired, but after a few minutes, I finally got him to say yes!

We went to The Shops at La Cantera again! It’s got places to eat and shop that we like, and it’s outside. Oh, and it’s close to where we live. I offered Target and lunch in that area as we needed to get a few extra groceries, but Niko said nope, we are doing La Cantera!

We had pizza with my parents. Niko also had garlic bread as he loves the marinara sauce that comes with it. With just one piece of garlic bread left, Niko grabbed it and just ate the top layer with all the good stuff on it.

We went to a place and made our own ice cream sandwich. Niko chose Nutella cookies, with cookies and cream ice cream, Nutella spread, whipped cream, and warmed! It was a place we have passed by a lot, but never go in for an ice cream sandwich, until yesterday.

On the way home, we stopped at the meat market and got hamburgers, hamburger buns, and bread. For dinner last night, I cooked the burgers for us.

As we were pulling into to the neighborhood, Niko asked me if the pool was open. I was like, yes it was open during the week of Spring Break, but not sure about today. I pulled into the pool parking lot, and it was open, but nobody was there as it’s either too cold for them or they don’t realize it’s open. We tested the water and yeah, it was cold, but it was a nice cold. So, we went home and got our bathing suits on and went back to the pool. We were there in the cold pool for about an hour, and it was very pleasant.

For somebody who didn’t want to go out, that somebody had a really good time. We went to the pool again this morning.
