Last Saturday, Niko asked me very nicely if he could have my iPad that I purchased in December. His current iPad is my old iPad mini 4 that I purchased in 2020. I gave him that one about a year ago when the iPad he had, broke.
I like my iPad and even have an Apple Pencil as well, but I wasn’t using it much as I thought I would. I tried buying a keyboard and mouse to use with it, but I didn’t like that setup. So, I thought long and hard Saturday night into Sunday morning, and I decided to say yes. Now that also means, I get the old iPad mini 4 back. The funny thing is, I have always like size of it. Well, it took some time as we had to back both of them up and restore them, but Sunday after breakfast, we officially switched.
When he was in the bathroom that evening before bed, he somehow dropped the Apple Pencil in the toilet. I am serious! I wasn’t upset, I laughed and said, you are not getting another Apple Pencil! I then had to run downstairs to get a pair of cooking tongs so I could fish it out of the toilet (as the toilet had other stuff in it), and I threw the pencil and tongs in there own garbage bag (which I took out separately to the trash). He then grabbed a marker and put it where the pencil used to be on the case.
Back to the iPad Mini 4, as I have been using to to read Kindle books on as my Kindle power button doesn’t work. I can still charge it and I have a special case that when it opens, it turns it on. But, if I leave it open and am not using it, it will put itself in sleep mode. Not a pain, just an annoyance, but to get it to turn on, I have to close the case and open it up. That’s why I have been reading this past week on the Mini.
After a few days of using the Mini, I realized it’s slow! I mean, it’s 5 years old. So, I did some research on newer iPad’s and on Saturday, I traded the Mini in to Best Buy, and upgraded to an iPad Air! Before that Best Buy run, I had to get a few things at Lowe’s. Let me tell you something about Lowe’s and Home Depot, I don’t like either one as I feel very intimidated and out of place as I have no clue what I am looking for and where to look for stuff. A few months ago, instead of going in the store and feeling stressed, I ordered two things online and picked it up curbside.
Oh, also, last Monday, I purchased a new MacBook Air. It is mine, and not Niko’s! We have an HP touch screen Chromebook that we got from Nina’s mother (we just have to copy a few files and then we can reset it). He uses a similar one at school.
I have been eyeing the MacBook for a while, and when I read the rumor that a new one was coming out this month with a new processor, I was intrigued and read everything about it online.
A few months ago, I sold my HP laptop to BuyBackWorld. I have been using our iMac since, but now I have a choice. Sit uncomfortably at a desk and use the iMac or sit comfortably wherever I choose and use my MacBook Air. Easy choice! I did use my wife’s MacBook Air a few times, but, I wanted my own. I chose a good time to buy everything as I got a raise and a bonus at my work this month, so that helped a lot.
Remember a few blogs ago (February 18th), when I mentioned that we rewarded Niko with a $100 Lego set as he did something good for a month. There was another set he wanted which was double the price and we told him, yes, we can get it if you go to school easily in the mornings up until Spring Break which is this week (it was less than a month). Well, for the first few days, it was a struggle to get him to go to school and we told him, the Lego set is not coming off the shelf to you. A few nights later, I was talking to Niko and told him that we have seven school days left until Spring Break, and if all those days are good, the Question Block Mario Lego set will be here on Friday. We told Nina our plan, and…it worked! He did miss one day as he was sick.
I visited an Apple Store on March 1st so I could initiate a trade-in for another iPad we had in the house and there is a Lego Store in the same shopping area. Had they had it, I would’ve gotten it, but they were sold out and not sure when it would be back in stock.
It arrived on Wednesday, March 6th from Target, and I hid it under our bed. When Niko came home from school that day, we told him we had it and it was hidden. He looked everywhere for it and I was glad he didn’t find it. I had a feeling that if he did, he would open it up and start building it. Eventually, I got it for him and showed him the box and, thankfully, he didn’t open it up. But he did take it with him for the that night and up until Friday so he could look at the box. On Friday morning, he opened it and the instructions was a huge book, and there were 13 bags. When he came home on Friday, the building started!
Well, let me say this, a 2064 piece set takes a lot of time to build! Niko and I switch off as it’s very intricate with a lot of small pieces. As of this publishing, we are still working on it.
