The Utterly Uninteresting and Unadventurous Tales of Fred, the Vampire Accountant – by Drew Hayes

Posted on 02/28/2024 by Mark

A few days ago, I asked my wife what she was reading on her iPad, and this was the book she answered. Normally, not my genre of things I like to read about. But, this one sounded interesting; an accountant who happens to be a vampire. She shared the book with me, and I immediately dove in.

This is the 1st book of eight in this series.

I enjoyed meeting Fred, who is not your typical vampire by any means. He goes to his high school reunion, where he reunites with a friend, named Krystal. Krystal’s job is to hunt down parahumans (ghouls, ghosts, and werewolves) who get out of hand, and her agency has no name and address. She eventually, at the reunion on, catches on too Fred, that he is indeed a vampire, but it doesn’t stop how quickly their relationship evolves.

They have a lot of interesting adventures, picking up other parahumans along the way, who end up becoming friends with them; we got Albert, a Zombie, Neil, a Necromancer, Buddy, a WereSteed, Richard, a Tracker, and Amy, a Mage with magic, alchemy, chemistry, and botany skills.

I did have to go back several times (luckily, on the Kindle, you can search for something easily and it brings up the results) in the book, when I forgot what a Necromancer was (just an example).

I enjoyed it, and I am already on book number two!
