Niko is used to eating lunch around 11 am and dinner at 3 pm. Probably because that’s when he eats at school and as soon as he gets home from school at 3 pm, he eats more (a lot more). Sometimes when I come down at 5 pm after I finish work, he is still eating.
Yesterday, we had lunch plans at 1 pm to celebrate my mother’s 75th birthday (her birthday was last Wednesday, but we gathered yesterday to celebrate). My family does holidays and birthdays around food, and I am not ashamed because I like to eat. We had known about this for a few weeks, and Niko kept telling us he was going to eat at home at 11 am, and then not eat anything at the restaurant. Both, Nina and I, were like that is fine. You can do that, and we can easily share our food with you if it looks good.
So, a few minutes before 11 am, I asked Niko if he wanted lunch, and he said no. I was surprised and asked him a few more times. Sometimes, he is distracted, and not paying attention. Again, his answer was no. I was like, OK.
When we were getting ready to leave at 11:45 am, I told Niko to pick a few things to nosh on in the car, as it’s going to be a lot of driving and at least an hour and a half before we even see and eat fresh hot food. He chose Lay’s potato chips and I threw a granola bar in his bag. I, for sure, know he ate the chips, as I saw crumbs!
Now, you’re wondering, what did we eat? Well, of course, I will tell. I mean, how can I not?
Our meals were served with a soup of the day, Hot and Sour. I am not a fan of that flavor, but I ended up scarfing down three bowls of it. It was actually really good. Or, maybe I was just extra hungry. For the main meal, I ordered Lemon Chicken with the sauce on the side. It came with fried rice and a spring roll. Nina ordered Chicken Pad Thai and Niko ordered Chicken Lomein. Oh, for appetizers, we had dumplings and Chicken Satay. Everything that went in my mouth was fantastic, and I was in a Thai/Chinese food coma until the chocolate cake arrived!
When we finally arrived home at 4 pm, it was after Niko’s eating time, and I knew he might not be hungry, so he had some milk and a small portion of leftover pasta and ground beef.
