Last Friday through last Monday, Nina was out of town. It was Niko and I alone with a loud cat, all day on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. I wasn’t at all worried or concerned about it. In fact, I was really looking forward to it. Nina did buy some extra quick meals from the grocery store for us, so I wouldn’t have to do a lot of fresh cooking.
I took the afternoon off on Friday and Monday, so after I picked him up from school, I would be done with work and we could have a party.
It was funny, because on Thursday night and while Niko was in the shower, I was joking around by telling him we are going to eat so much chocolate! He was like YES!!!!!!!!! I didn’t have anything planned as we will play it by ear, but I did offer several suggestions. The only thing I had to do on Saturday was drop off some stuff at Goodwill and FedEx. Other than that, I am Niko’s minion! Whatever he wants within reason, I am down for it.
On Friday when I picked him up, I offered to go anywhere with him for a quick meal, but he wanted to come home and have chicken nuggets! I asked a few times, and even asked if he wanted some ice cream from Baskin Robbins, and for that he also said no. What!!!! But you love ice cream!!!
On Saturday, I gave him a few choices and put them in a jar and let him pick. He chose La Cantera. I talk about that outdoor shopping mall a lot, because it’s close to us, has places we like to spend money, and it’s outdoors. After my quick errands to FedEx (I traded in an old Apple iPad) and Goodwill (lots of clothes that don’t fit Niko and some of mine and Nina’s that we don’t wear and a few other odds and ends), it was off to La Cantera. We had pizza and garlic bread from Lucianos and cookies from Carlo’s Bake Shop. We (Or I) purchased a Super Mario fun marble run game from Barnes and Noble and a vespa and train set from The Lego Store. Yeah, we had fun. When we got home, we put the Mario game together and built the Legos. He was impressed with himself that he did the train and kept asking me which part of the train I liked better. He really does a great job of building as he gets the pieces out and reads the instructions. I do have to help sometimes when he can’t find a piece.
On Sunday, we stayed home. He was really tired and claimed to not be feeling well. I was planning on an early bedtime around 6 pm, so we had an early dinner around 3 pm. When he finished eating, he was ready to be sleeping and this was around 4:15 pm. I was like, OK. I was totally expecting him to wake up a few hours later for a quick pee, but he ended up sleeping through the night (which he needed and would help him as well) and woke up at 5:45 am. I still had a tired and sick child and he had a small fever. I gave him medicine and allowed him to stay home from school on Monday.
That evening, he went to bed early again (it wasn’t 4:15 pm like Sunday and it was definitely before 5 pm). Nina arrived home that around 2 pm. Before he went to bed, we wanted him to take medicine. I have written about this process a lot, but he is very hard to get medicated because he doesn’t like the smell of it (it’s medicine and it’s not supposed to smell or taste good, we both tell him) and then he starts to get frustrated about it and that makes him cry and then he coughs and on some occasions, he vomits, and that’s exactly what happened in his bed. So, we had to strip the bed, the boy, and the pillows and throw everything in the washing machine. Yeah, not fun. Any ideas? Taking things away doesn’t work. Giving him a timer doesn’t work. HELP!!!!!!! He did wake up around 7 pm for a quick pee, so Nina and I both helped him. Not pee, but getting him tucked back in bed. He again slept through the night and I woke him up at 6:15 am for school, and after we had breakfast, he was complaining again of being tired and sick. Thankfully, no temperature, but we did want him to take some medicine for any aches and pains, and he refused. I took his electronics away and Nina took something fun away that were planning to do on Saturday. And, no medicine. And, no school. Nina and him watched movies which was fine.
On Tuesday night, he actually went to bed at his normal time of 6:30 pm, so I am really hoping when he wakes up, he is much better and we don’t have to get him medicated.
Well…please, I need the sound of a drumroll. Perfect!!!
So, on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday morning, he woke up feeling groovy which meant no medicine required.
Yesterday, I wanted to do something fun with him as I don’t get much time in the evenings during the school week to hang out with him. I mean, when I get out of work ate 5 pm, I hurry downstairs where he is finishing eating dinner. Then, a few minutes later, he is done and time for bathroom. I feel bad because after he finishes his bathroom duties, he always asks if we can play and I am like yes, but only for a few minutes as we need to get you in bed and sleeping.
So, again, yesterday…
When I first told him, we was like no way, I am tired. I let that linger and around 11 am, he said let me use the bathroom and then we can go out for lunch. Sometimes, it has to be his idea. Now, the fun part of what to eat. I asked him if he had any cravings, and he mentioned Freddy’s (for burgers and fries), but I said no as we go there too often. I then asked about another place for burgers and fries, and he said no. Then he said, isn’t there a place called burgers and fries? I thought silently, nope. Then, I asked him where he saw it and after he explained the location, I got it…Five Guys Burgers and Fries! We ended up meeting my parents there, and we had burgers and fries, and they shared a shake. They gave him an 800 piece Lego set which we started to put together after we got home, and hopefully, we can finish it today.
