Robert B. Parker’s Killing the Blues – by Michael Brandman

Posted on 10/04/2023 by Mark

This is the 10th book in the Jesse Stone series, and the first by Michael Brandman after Robert Parker passed away. That is one of the reasons why I was interested in this series, as a few other authors have continued the series. I wanted to see if I could spot the difference between them, and for this one, I didn’t.

I like the Jesse Stone character, as he is extremely confident as a policeman, it seems like every female he encounters is turned on by his demeanor, he takes care of the community, he takes care of his fellow police officers, he doesn’t always abide the rules, he drinks, he sees a shrink who was also a former cop, and he has an ex-wife (who he still thinks he is in love with).

Here are a few other characters that I like and maybe they are already predominantly featured in other books:

Jen, his ex-wife

Molly Crane, policewoman

Suitcase Simpson, policeman

Detective Healy

Dr. Dix, his shrink

Hasty Hathaway, one of the board members and the main one who was responsible for hiring Jesse (he was also laundering money at his bank and got in trouble for that)

Gino Fish, a bad guy

Selectman Hanson, another member of the of the board

Just like the prior Jesse Stone books I have read, the plot is very similar. A crime happens in Paradise, people are killed, and it’s up to Jesse and crew to solve it.
