Niko’s school is less than a mile from our house, but we still drive and park across the street from the school in the mornings. It’s been so hot (like over 100 degrees for the first few weeks of school), that when Nina and I come home, we are both drenched in sweat and have to change clothes immediately.
But last week, the temperature was a bit less than 100 degrees, so I decided to walk and meet them at the school. I did it on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. I do have to remember to wear socks and sneakers instead of sandals! My Apple watch keeps track of the walks. What happened to Wednesday and Thursday? Well, Niko was sick on those days, so my exercise was limited to walking down and up and up and down the stairs 765 times each day!
I leave a few minutes before them, and I am able to slowly walk and enjoy the sounds of school buses, cars, crossing guard whistles, and lots of parents walking their own kids to school. I can stop and snap a beautiful picture of the sunrise. Altogether, it’s a short walk, but it’s something and I need that something. When it gets cooler for like one day in the Fall, we all may walk in the mornings. Nina has actually been walking from the school to our home in the mornings for two weeks.
Nina and I may even take a short walk together around 9 or 10 am when it gets cooler.
I don’t have a bicycle anymore but can easily see myself getting one sometime down the road so I can ride it in the evenings around the neighborhood. I don’t need anything fancy.
