Water Shenanigans

Posted on 07/22/202304/19/2025 by Mark

I had planned on writing something totally different, and already had a good start on it, but then something else happened and I got inspired. Oh, you want to know more about what I was writing prior. Well, it was about Niko being a superhero with all the superpowers and my job at bedtime, is to try to find a way to take them all away, but he always has a perfect answer to deflect it. Niko loves this and requests this story quite often!

I also wanted to write about Niko’s brain development, as I am pretty sure that a few weeks ago, it happened again. When he goes to sleep, he likes his music on and several nightlights on scattered throughout his bedroom. Well, a few days ago, no lights and no music and he has been sleeping much better and longer. I, for one, am glad because that music was loud, and it was same songs over and over and over and over.

Back to my inspiration…

On Friday, and right when I was about to eat my lunch, Niko told me his plans for what we were going to do when I logged out of work at 4pm. He wanted to go outside in the 100-degree heat and have water shenanigans with me!

Usually, when I am done working, we go downstairs and eat dinner in our nice and cold 68-degree house! Afterwards, we go back upstairs and play. Same old, same old. And I am perfectly fine with that. I offer my suggestions for playing, and most of the time he agrees, but sometimes, he makes up something to play with.

So, when I logged out, I ran to the bedroom and threw my bathing suit on, and he did the same thing. I got to see his arms and legs as he always wears pants and long sleeve shirts. We grabbed two water guns, a huge mixing bowl, and got the hose turned on, and it was game on for us. Who won the game? I would have to say either the fence, the back of the house, or Niko won as they each got equal amount of water on them.

Just seeing his smile and hearing his loud happy shrieks, made it totally worth it. We both got drenched, but when we were finishing up, he filled the mixing bowl with water and poured it on himself a few times.

Even when he showers, he likes playing with the water. A few days ago, I was standing outside the shower while he was getting cleaned, and when I opened the curtain to help him finish, I got all wet, the bathroom got all wet, and the ceiling got all wet. He did, afterwards, say sorry dad, I really wanted to get you wet, as a big smile rose from his face.
