The Pool

Posted on 06/04/202304/19/2025 by Mark

The last time we swam at a pool was on our cruise last December, and Niko with a swimming vest, thoroughly enjoyed it (he felt free in the pool).

We have lived in our current house for almost 4 years, and we have a very nice pool at our clubhouse. But we haven’t used it as much as we thought we would when we moved in. For one thing, Covid happened, and we just didn’t feel super safe until there were vaccinations for it. Also, it can be busy, and I don’t like mingling with other people. Oh, also it’s super-hot where we live. Lastly, we have Niko, and sometimes it’s hard to get him out in the world to do stuff – pool being one of those.

Well, yesterday, Niko and I went to our neighborhood pool and we both had a great time. We tried to go a few weeks ago, but he couldn’t make up his mind and after 30 minutes of listening to him debate himself, I was done!

I guess we should purchase a swimming vest for him as he doesn’t know how to swim, although, we did tell him that this summer, he is going to learn. Despite that, though, he was able to walk around most of the pool on his own (he is tall), and I didn’t have to carry him everywhere we went. He even allowed me to go down a water slide as he sat in that particular area with his legs in the pool. We were there for almost 90 minutes, and we are planning on going again today.

The funny thing is, he will only wear pants and a long sleeve shirt to school or to go out, but at the pool, he puts on his bathing suit and short sleeve shirt without any resistance.

I have a great feeling that this summer, we will be at the pool a lot, and I am totally fine with that. It’s nice, that Nina can log out during the day during the week and take him and hopefully, it won’t be too crowded. When me and him go, I prefer mornings on the weekends before it gets too hot and crowded.
