A CVS Date

Posted on 03/12/202304/19/2025 by Mark

Last Thursday morning, I had to get more cough medicine as we used up everything we had in stock. Nina was sick with the flu and a cold and a few days later, I was sick with something different. The commonality we both had was a cough. Last weekend, I was absolutely exhausted, and I asked Nina if I could take a short nap after breakfast. She said of course, and as soon as I heard that, I was already running for the bedroom at full speed! It helped, and I appreciated her willingness to allow me to do it, even though she still wasn’t 100 percent cured. When she was sick and Niko and I were home, the majority of her time was spent in the bedroom with the door closed; napping or not napping – it didn’t matter as it was quiet, dark, and comfy.

I rhetorically asked Nina if she wanted to go on a CVS date with me for cough medicine and I was surprised when she said yes! Usually, she wants to finish working as soon as possible. But I happened to catch her at the perfect time.

So, we got sodas for me and chocolates for everybody in addition to several different cough medicines for us and Niko. Yeah, Niko has a cough as well, but he refuses to take cough medicine. We just tell him drinking and sleeping will help alleviate your cough. A few of my sick nights, he would wake himself up by coughing, and a little bit of phlegm would come out onto his pillowcase. That meant, he would come and get me to help him which, of course, I would. New pillowcase, quick pee, and back to bed for him. Some of those nights, we ventured downstairs to get a snack in darkness. We do have a bright front porch light, a nightlight across from the staircase, and a nightlight in the bathroom that helps make the downstairs a little bit brighter. And the fridge has a light that goes on when we open as well.

Oh, also, for our sick nights, I slept on the upstairs sofa. It was actually very comfortable, and quiet as I don’t need the audio monitor since Niko’s bedroom is just a few steps away from the sofa. I can clearly hear him snoring as well as his music. I sleep with an eye mask, so lights, whether it is outside or inside the house, never bother me. The only thing that bothered me was right when am I ready for bed, the cat was awake and would play downstairs chasing balls! I knew that after a few minutes, the cat would be done, and he would come back upstairs to his sleeping donut for his bedtime. Yes, a few nights, I would have a cat sleeping with me or should I say, on me!

Several days while I was sick, I had early bedtimes and that was very helpful . Usually, in the evenings, I hang out downstairs and do some reading and writing and eventually fall asleep by 9:30. In those early sick days, it was 7:30 or 8. I had no attention span and couldn’t wait to lay down in bed and go to sleep. I would wake up a few hours later as the medicine would wear off and I also had to pee, as I have been drinking a lot of water.

As of today, I am feeling much better.
