Overall, the cruise was very enjoyable, and it was just enough nights (5) for us. I just wish I could’ve gotten some naps in. A nap for all would’ve been very welcome, but he hasn’t napped in several years. I mean, yeah, we did all relax, but we all had our faces buried in electronics or the television. Nina downloaded quite a few different things for Niko to watch on his iPad.
I did happily tag along with Niko daily as he explored the ship. We actually did a lot of that. From the Chapel on deck 14 to the ice-skating rink on deck 4 to swimming on deck 11 and the arcade on deck 12. I even took him to the front of the ship where the helicopter pad is.
For me, I am glad I didn’t have to cook, clean, or take the trash out. We had an amazing stateroom attendant, Amar, who gave us ice, fresh towels, and made the bed and the sleeping sofa for us everyday. We did a good job on keeping our room cleaned as we had plenty of places to put things away.
So, now, let me tell you about my favorite meals on the ship. I didn’t take any food pictures, because my attention was focused on Niko to make sure he was OK. He actually behaved perfectly and listened to Nina and me. At dinner, we dined in the main dining room at 5:30, and we brought stuff for him to do while he waited for food.
Breakfast on the ship, we dined at the Windjammer, which was a buffet. I wasn’t impressed with it, even the omelette station was underwhelming as they didn’t offer the cheese I preferred and only had a few ingredients available. When I saw people with piles of bacon on their plates, I wondered how and why? I tended to get the same thing, an already made ham omelette, fried hash browns, pork and chicken sausage, French toast, and pancakes – with orange juice and chocolate milk. A few mornings, I threw in a bowl of fruit loops.
My favorite lunch was at Johnny Rockets. I had a bacon cheeseburger, a bowl of chili, and we all shared fries and onion rings. Yes, I also had a cookies and cream shake. We almost dined there twice, but that second time, they weren’t open when we went.
For dinner, the appetizers of Shrimp cocktail and scallops and the creme brulee for desert were my favorites. My favorite main meal for dinner was the filet mignon steak and the Seafood Linguini Alfredo. That steak was the only one I had on the ship, even though we dined for lunch at the specialty steak restaurant. Everybody got steak and I got the salmon, because Niko wanted to try the salmon. The salmon was good as I ate it, but I much more enjoyed the Macaroni and Cheese appetizer. We did order deserts, but Niko had the sudden urge to leave before they were served. The Seafood Linguini Alfredo had mussels, scallops, and shrimp and the Alfredo sauce was perfect!
I needed a vacation from the vacation, and the funny thing is, when I logged into work last Monday, I lost my system access. So, I did a get a little break. I was finally able to login to work on Tuesday around lunchtime.
I lost count on how many loads of laundry we did after we returned. The washer and dryer were running all day last Sunday; at least those appliances were fairly new. We got a new washer in 2020 and a new dryer a few months ago.
Lastly, the new terminal in Galveston for Royal Caribbean, made everything quick and easy for us.
Lastly lastly, everybody we encountered at the Royal Caribbean terminal and on the ship itself, were very friendly to us.
