I apologize for the pathetic NaNoWriMo from yesterday. It was poorly written. I copied something I previously wrote and added a few new sentences. What was I thinking?
Well, my lazy excuse is I was tired, and you can blame Daylight Savings Time. Every time we change clocks, it always messes with Niko’s sleeping. I know, I said Niko’s sleeping and not mine, but mine is also affected. I guess that I got the correct affected because WordPress didn’t underline in it red, which usually means, I have something wrong. I am glad WordPress can help me with their and there because I will never get that one right. Sometimes, MS Word and WordPress can recognize a misspelled word, but I have it so wrong, that it can’t even suggest what I wanted.
And when he wakes up, whether it is for a quick pee or done sleeping, I wake up so I can help him. I have always done this because my wife has difficulty sleeping and if she woke up once or twice, she very likely won’t be able to go back to sleep. Whereas I can immediately go back to sleep. Now, she did wake up for the midnight shift of nighttime potty training and I got the 2 or 3 am shift. On the weekends, when Niko is done sleeping, I get the cat out of our bedroom and shut the door so Nina can get a few extra of sleep in.
After Niko and I finish eating breakfast and cleaning the kitchen, we go back upstairs, and sometimes, Nina is still sleeping. She eventually comes out an hour or two later after we get up and sees Niko tucked in a fuzzy blanket with the television remote, the Switch remote, and his iPad within reaching distance. I am sitting next to him, either scrolling through social media or reading my book.
So, back to yesterday and stupid Daylight Savings Time. Niko woke up for good at 5 am yesterday. We left at 11 am for the birthday papery and arrived home at 2:30 pm. Niko fell asleep at 6:30 pm and I fell asleep at 7:20 pm. I was preparing myself so if he got up early again this morning, I wouldn’t be exhausted. Well, today, he woke up at; let me get a drumroll right now, at 4 am! I tried to get him to go back to sleep, but it wasn’t happening.
Yes, I was tired, but not to the point of sleep deprivation. I wish I could leave him alone and go back to my bed, but he is just six years old, and I like to be with him in case he needs anything. Being with him is nice as we hang out in his bed and wait for a later time to start doing things. This morning, we had a lot of extra time to eat downstairs before we dropped him off at school.
I have a feeling that me and him will have a few more early wakeups this week. I will be tired but will survive as I am off Friday and am planning on a taking a nap that day. I just need to be sure to get everything I do in the evenings after Niko is sleeping completed quickly and not lollygag for three hours! One good thing, he is off from school tomorrow so he can relax upstairs while Nina and I work.
Oh, let me tell you the things I do in the evenings after Niko is sleeping, and no, I am not available for hire:
- Put clean laundry away
- Gather all upstairs trash and dirty dishes
- Scoop litter box
- Empty iRobot trash
- Clean the kitchen
- Take trash out and if a pickup day, brings cans to curb
- Eat and drink if needed
- Write, read, or watch a movie (my relaxation time)
- Run dishwasher before I go upstairs for sleeping
