Marketing 101
After I click publish and copy my most recent blog to Facebook and LinkedIn, my job is done. I don’t schedule interviews with the local or national NBC, CBS, ABC, or FOX affiliates to promote it. I also don’t Tweet anything about it or share a pic of me writing on Instagram.
I move on, and either start writing something new for another day, relax on the sofa and read a book, or watch something on my iPad.
Should I be doing something different? I used to share it everywhere and used hashtags, but it never went viral.
All I want is people to be aware of my websites and comment on them. I don’t want comments on Facebook. Come on, how hard is it for you to click the link and comment? Usually, when I see comments on Facebook, I just click like.
At one point, I shared a summary of what I wrote on Facebook and at the end, just wrote, to read more, visit www.thedadspeaks.com.
I know, that in order to increase my page views, I need to comment on other people’s websites. Well, give me another good daddy blogger like me, and I will happily do that. I used to follow some daddy bloggers on Twitter and Instagram, but I don’t care about things your kids say or a picture of your kid in the middle of a mustard spill on the kitchen floor.
I do belong to a Facebook group called Dads of San Antonio, but I think it would violate the group rules if I shared my blogs on there. In March, I shared a link of my most recent book I published, and they deleted it! The group is more of I need a job, I need legal advice, or I need somebody who can clean mustard spills. Maybe I should leave the group? I don’t contribute anything.
I, at one point, had a Facebook page for both of my websites, but it was too much work.
I currently have a Twitter handle for each website, but I don’t do anything on either of them. I mainly just browse the latest Tweets from the people I follow and then I get annoyed at the Tweets that Twitter thinks I may be interested in. I also don’t follow a lot of people or organizations. Right now, my feed is lot of information about what did or didn’t happen between a former San Antonio Spurs player and a former contractor who worked for the San Antonio Spurs. I do care because what happened could happen to anybody and nobody seemed to do anything about it. You shouldn’t get fired or terminated for reporting it. There, that is my three cents about it.
I used to promote my blogs on Instagram with a funny picture of spilled mustard and always included a link – not a clickable one though. I mainly use it for pictures of spilled mustard taken from different angles, different cameras, and different locations throughout my house. No, I actually share sunset, sunrise, cat, boy (although I never show his face), food, or anything else that piques my attention.
As for LinkedIn, I use it for business networking, but within the past few weeks, I have started using it and Facebook to promote my blogs. Does it work? I get absolutely nothing on LinkedIn, and a few likes and comments on Facebooks – but it’s always the same people.
Well, I think I have an idea…
Let me share this on Facebook and LinkedIn and disable the comments. I am going to force you to take 10 extra seconds out of your day to click on a link and write a comment. I will be sure to take 15 seconds out of my day to respond to your comment.
