Niko starts first grade on August 22nd. It will be his first experience in that environment as he has been home with us since he was born. We would’ve sent him last year to be a Kindergartner, but at that point in the Covid-19 pandemic, vaccinations weren’t available to kids, and we didn’t want to him to have to wear a mask all day at school.
In the mornings, he wakes up when he is done sleeping! And, we have all the time to eat breakfast. No rush. But, last Thursday, we changed things around and did a test school run with Nina and me.
We had his clothes picked out the night before and made sure his backpack and lunch bag were easily accessible.
I had my alarm set for 6:30 am, so I could have a few minutes to freshen up and get dressed.
We woke him up at 7:00 am and without any issues, he got dressed.
We headed downstairs and while Niko was finished getting dressed, we toasted him a bagel. He had a few bites, and after two bites, he was eager to go to school. At 7:22 am, we put him in the car, and at 7:26, we were in front of the school. That was easy!
Don’t worry, we didn’t leave him there and cry our hearts out; nope, that will happen on his first day! It will be weird and very quiet at home. Afterwards, we went back home, and we all changed clothes and had breakfast.
Nina will do a test school run by herself this coming week.
So now that Niko has school, we have added his days off on our calendar in the kitchen.
The cool thing is when he does start next week, Nina and I can walk him directly to his classroom.
