Winning Time

Posted on 05/15/202204/19/2025 by Mark

I have only watched a few shows and movies on television since Niko was born in 2016. One of those was Tales of the City on Netflix and YouTube; I watched it after I read all the books in the series.

I don’t miss television and enjoy doing other things in the evenings like reading and writing. I read all the books that Jeff Pearlman wrote, and Winning Time on HBO is based on one of them. I just saw that Jeff Pearlman will have a new book about Bo Jackson in October. I have already put it in my Amazon wish list so I will remember.

So, of course, I had to watch it on HBO, and I really enjoyed it. Yeah, it is a bit exaggerated as it’s television, but at the same time, it’s also very factual. I especially liked John C Reily as the LA Lakers owner, Dr. Jerry Buss; Sally Field as his mother; Adrien Brody as Pat Riley; and Quincy Isaiah as Magic Johnson. I also liked the way the series was shot as often times, the characters talk directly to the camera. I can’t wait for season 2.

As I was watching it, I read the autobiography of Spencer Haywood. Haywood’s character was in Winning Time as he was on the LA Lakers 1980 championship. I also read another book about the history of the Seattle Supersonics organization as Haywood played for Seattle from 1970 to 1975.
