Vacation To Ohio

Posted on 02/13/202204/19/2025 by Mark

We booked a trip in December of 2021 for February 3rd through the 7th to Ohio to visit Nina’s dad and stepmom. Well, a week before the trip was supposed to happen, we got several flight cancelations. We rebooked them all. Then, a day before, we got more flight cancelations. We rebooked them again. Then, the day of our departure on Friday, we got notified that the first flight was canceled. So, we canceled everything also and are working with the airlines to get all of our money back.

Nina did a lot of preparation in advance mostly to occupy Niko like fun things to do, snacks, and drink mixes. It was fun unpacking all the snacks and eating them. After I unpacked my clothes, I decided to do a clothes purge as the majority of them don’t fit me. My wife may take some and make something out of them for her.

The three of us were looking forward to getting away for a few days and would’ve been Niko’s first time in an airplane. We were ready to go on Friday morning. We all had a good sleep, the luggage was in Nina’s car, we had our last-minute stuff easily accessible and written down so we wouldn’t forget anything. Our alarm was set for 5:45 am but, Niko woke up at 5:25 am. As soon as I started getting him dressed, Nina bellowed DON’T GET DRESSED, THE FLIGHT HAS BEEN CANCELED.

I can totally understand canceling flights if they are sick or for bad weather. But dealing with the customer service at Travelocity and the airlines has been horrible. My wife did all the grunt work on that end and told me when we book a cruise in a few weeks, I am in charge of it. She will take charge on rebooking a trip to Ohio in a few weeks.

About a week before the trip, we looked at the weather for Ohio and it showed lots of snow on our original departure day, snow on the following day, and very cold the rest of the days. For Texas, the weather showed a slight chance of wintry mix and ice on our original departure day and just cold the following day. Well, when we get a little piece of ice on the roads where we live, the whole city shuts down; and that’s what happened. The Dallas airport was where we would’ve landed to hop on another plane and that airport had snow and ice on our original departure day and still below freezing the following day. Oh well, got to love Texas weather!

Nina was concerned about the weather and the possibility of flights being delayed or even canceled. I was more concerned with passenger safety and hoping everybody would wear a mask and also not do anything stupid.
