The Dad Bod – Part 11

Posted on 10/24/202104/19/2025 by Mark

Even though I have been doing short evening walks since June, that is the only thing I am having success at. I stopped walking from September 29th through October 15th, mainly because during that time, Niko was waking up super early and that means, I am up also. I had no motivation to walk as I all I wanted to do was my normal downstairs evening chores and then go upstairs and fall asleep. It was good that during most of that time, I was on vacation.

I didn’t walk this Friday or yesterday as I used my feet to mow the backyard. It does take more time than the front and the only times I have to mow are in the evenings and mornings. So, I did a little bit Friday evening and finished on Saturday morning. All together, it took me 52 minutes to mow; as composed to 15 minutes for the front. It’s always satisfying for me when I am done and it also motivates our neighbors to mow. I am like a dog as I run to all the windows to see where the mowing is coming from.

My walks are short as I just go around the block, but it feels good. I was getting some amazing sunset pictures, but recently started going out later; which means darker. So, now I get moon pictures. I share those on my Instagram page. Because of the later and darker walks, I purchased wearable lights.

When it comes to eating healthier, I do good for a few weeks and then without even thinking, I am right back to where I started. The weekends are the hardest for me as I find myself eating what Niko eats.

I am trying again, as I started last Monday, to decrease my milk and cheese consumption. So far, I am giving myself a thumbs up. It will be hard to completely give it up, which is my ultimate goal.

I know, I am not the only one who has gained weight since I started working from home last April. I do have to go into the office this week, then the week of Thanksgiving, and then the week of Christmas…after, that, I don’t know. Don’t worry, I have clothes that still fit me.

Even though I have been on site a few times since last April, I haven’t done a full week. Nina is going to make sure I have food to eat at work so I won’t have to worry about that when I come home. On Saturday, she made me a vegetable medley of eggplant, green pepper, and zucchini. She also made a huge pot of meat sauce and today is pork and salmon. When I made my eggs for my breakfast this morning, I threw in extra for my breakfast tomorrow morning. Lots of food choices for me and I will happily eat it and am thankful for her cooking; my job is to clean all the dishes.

I am not allowed to leave anything at work, so I will use my tote bag for plugs, fan, headphones, and other thing else that I don’t want in my separate lunch bag. My lunch bag is very big as it can hold a lot of stuff and I am planning on making sure I have enough food to last me all day; yeah, I get munchy.

Since I have to leave my house by 6 am, I will have everything ready to go the night before, so I can grab it and go.

One really nice things about being at the office is they have free wi-fi, so I can jam out all day to SiriusXM satellite radio. For my drive to and from work, I will download some podcasts episodes that I subscribe to. I haven’t downloaded anything in a very very very long time.

It will be quick time with Niko during the week when I come home as I will probably only have less than 2 hours with him and we need to play, eat dinner, and get clean. Then after he is sleeping around 7:30 pm, I will probably spend about 30 minutes alone downstairs cleaning up, taking trash out, maybe walking, and relaxing. Then, afterwards, sleepy time for me as my work alarm is set for 5:45 am and I still have a Niko pee alarm set for 3 am. Oh, being a working dad is fun and I won’t complain.
