When we first purchased Minecraft for the Nintendo Switch, Niko didn’t like it as it was hard to navigate and requires lots of reading to know what things are. Well, flash forward a few months, and now, Niko is a pro at Minecraft. The things he builds are amazing and remember, he is only 5 years old. Nina and I occasionally have to tell him what some of the crafting items are, but for the most part, he knows what he wants and finds them without any help from us. When he requests help to search, we spell it out, but he finds the letters to do it. When he talks in Minecraft terms, I have no clue what he is talking about.
He watches several different YouTube Kids channels about Minecraft and often takes there builds into his own world for inspiration. One of them has a comment of the day and a few days ago it was from somebody named Niko and Niko and I both looked at each other and laughed and he asked me if it was him!
For me, I have no clue how to mine anything and last weekend, Niko tried to show me, but he took the controller from me after 5 seconds!
I tell him when I was younger, Minecraft wasn’t available and I played sporting games on the original Nintendo where the controllers were attached to the game system!
I thought about purchasing some sporting games for the Switch, but the only time I would be able to play would be in the evenings and I like doing other things in the evenings; like writing and reading.
