The Dad’s Library – Part 2

Posted on 09/01/202104/19/2025 by Mark

If I was put on a quiz show to answer who won the NBA Championship, the Super Bowl, and the World Series since 2016, I would fail! I have a perfect reason and that is Niko as he was born in 2016. I have more important things in life than doing things that I used to enjoy. In addition to sports, I also put all of my favorite tv shows on hold and I don’t miss either.

But, lately, I have been indulging my sports brain with books. Particularly, an author named, Jeff Pearlman who has written several books. I have read two books on the LA Lakers (one was about Magic, Kareem, and Pat and the other one was about Kobe, Shaq, and Phil), a book about Walter Payton, a book about the USFL (United States Football League), and I just read a book about the Dallas Cowboys dynasty of the 90’s. I like his style of writing and the books are historical (of course) and biographical (he tells the readers how players arrived at there destination along with a quick upbringing of them). He also has books about Roger Clemens, Brett Favre, and the 1986 NY Mets. I am looking forward to reading all of those soon. Another one of his I just started is about Barry Bonds.

I am also reading the Billie Jean King autobiography.

Other sports books I have read recently are:

Glory Days: The Summer of 1984 and the 90 Days That Changed Sports and Culture Forever

Those Guys Have All the Fun: Inside the World of ESPN

Till the End by CC Sabathia

I Never Had It Made by Jackie Robinson

Rebound: From Pain to Passion – Leadership Lessons Learned by Matt Doherty

KG: A to Z: An Uncensored Encyclopedia of Life, Basketball, and Everything in Between by Kevin Garnett

Loose Balls: The Short, Wild Life of the American Basketball Association

Dr. J: The Autobiography by Julius Erving

I Came As a Shadow: An Autobiography by John Thompson

Eleven Rings: The Soul of Success by Phil Jackson

Laker Girl by Jeannie Buss

Tony Parker: Beyond All of My Dreams by Tony Parker

I have Carmelo Anthony and Giannas Antetokounmpo autobiographies in my Amazon wishlist.
