Tales of the City

Posted on 05/12/202104/19/2025 by Mark

Two weeks ago, I finished reading the last book of 9 in the Tales of the City series by Armistead Maupin. It was also adapted into a television series and I watched two seasons on Netflix and two seasons on YouTube. I finished watching the television series last Sunday.

The last season; from 2019 on Netflix, wasn’t based on any of the books. But, the majority of the original characters did return to celebrate the 90th birthday of the landlady; older and wiser they were!

The main characters in the book reside in San Francisco in the same building where the landlady has a secret; one, which is revealed later in the books, is she is a transexual. It’s about friendship, love, life, death, adventure, and relationships as the characters have different sexual preferences.

I just finished the autobiography of Armistead Maupin. I am glad I read the Tales of the City books first as a lot of the stuff that happened in the books came from his experiences. I am now reading the autobiography of Rock Hudson; Maupin had a brief fling with Rock.
