We have always treated Niko like an adult. Because of that, he knows all about covid-19 and how dangerous it is and never complains about having to wear a mask. We also told him about the Presidential election in November and what happened a few days ago at the White House.
Niko likes playing with things that belonged to me when I was younger. One of those things was a very small replica of the Titanic. I told what him what happened and asked him if he wanted to see one of my posters I have of the Titanic; he said yes. So, we went upstairs to my closet and I showed him the poster. Then, I showed him a 2-sided poster of George Harrison and I told him that it was taken while he was sick. Niko’s reply to that was, did he die Dad? My answer was the truth, yes, he had cancer, which in most cases is very bad. Yes, we have told him about death.
Two of the shows he watches on YouTube Kids are The Fixies and AumSum Time; The Fixies show how things work and AumSum asks what happens if this happens. He even watches one called Science Max, which is all about science experiments.
Even though he probably doesn’t fully understand it all, he listens and remembers it. For being only 4 1/2 years old, he has a great memory and he often brings things up throughout the day that we have talked about in the past or watched on YouTube Kids.
