Last Tuesday, I finished my 4th class in my first term for my MBA at WGU. My next term starts on May 1, so I have a few weeks off from school to relax, write, and read books. I need a little break.
The book I am reading now is the biography of Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson. I just finished the autobiography of Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney and a book by Lawrence Levy about Pixar. All three of those are related! A few weeks ago, I read the Robyn Crawford book about her life with Whitney Houston and then afterwards, I read the Bobby Brown autobiography. Yes, I really enjoy reading about people.
Also last Tuesday, I was told that I can start working from home starting on Wednesday.
So, my first day working from home went well. It was very nice and I enjoyed being with Nina and Niko. I really think Niko likes it a lot; he was so happy on my first day. When he needed something, he wasn’t sure who to ask, so he just started by saying can somebody please do this for me? For one of my breaks on my first day, the three of us took a walk and on my second break, Niko and I had a pillow party on his bed!
I really liked that I was able to sleep in till 7 am, I didn’t have to get in my car for 26 miles (one way to work), I had my own kitchen, I had my own bathroom, and I didn’t have to get dressed up in a polo shirt and jeans. It was nice that during my first 3 days at home, I was able to do laundry and clean the kitchen throughout the day; two less things for me to worry about when my work ended. I always send Nina a text message when I am leaving work and on Wednesday at 4 pm, I texted her LEAVING WORK NOW and a minute later, I arrived home and said, HONEY and NIKO, I AM HOME. She laughed really hard!
It will take me some time to get used to working on a 15 inch Chromebook monitor; at work, I have 2 large monitors. In a few weeks, I am going to buy a Windows based HP laptop; I want something more powerful for school and now work.
One thing I am going to miss is listening to podcasts while I drive to and from work. While I am working at work at work and not at home, I can easily jam to my music or talking podcasts with my earbuds. But now that I am home, I have Nina and Niko to talk and listen to. Unless they are on a different floor from me while I am working from home, then I can jam to music!
My workstation so far is either the downstairs sofa, the upstairs sofa, a lazy boy recliner upstairs, and the kitchen island. I will add outside next week which will be very nice.
