Weekends Are Hard

Posted on 12/15/201904/19/2025 by Mark

Weekends are hard for me because I take care of Niko all day on Saturday and Sunday; Nina works on Saturday, does grocery shopping on Saturday, and cooks on Sunday. Yeah, we do have Nina at our disposal, but I try to give her a break because she takes care of him during the week.

So, I also do lots of laundry on the weekends; we make a lot of dirty laundry, I vacuum the house; well, I do get help from Niko on that, I take care of all the food for Niko and I, I play with Niko; we build with blocks and we drive cars and trucks, and I get to bathe him before bedtime. And, when he is finally sleeping, I can finally do my stuff; like cleaning the kitchen, scooping cat litter, taking all the trash out, eating dinner, and doing schoolwork. I am done with my first class and currently working on my second class; which is reading a book about Human Resource Management. No writing for this one!

Niko requires a lot of attention and he never stops talking or asking questions. Please don’t ask me how may times we go up and down the stairs? I absolutely love being with him, but at the end of the day when I am ready to do schoolwork, my brain is broken and I want to be done. I don’t get much time with him during the workweek; basically, I come home at 5 and he is usually in bed by 7. In those 2 quick hours, we play, we eat, I bathe him, and I read books in his bed before he goes to dreamland. I do get him up at 1:30 in the morning for a new diaper and pee, but that takes less than 5 minutes. And, yes, even though he is sleepy, he is still talkative at that time. Most of the time, he asks for drinks which we have in the upstairs mini fridge! Yes, we have a mini fridge upstairs!

I think to help me get less stressed with him on the weekends, we will start doing things outside of the house. I used to do that almost every Saturday with him, but stopped doing it for a few weeks; hey, I was tired, not feeling well, he was sick, Nina was recovering from her surgery, and I had schoolwork writing that needed to get done.

Last Sunday, I took Niko to La Cantera, an upscale outdoor shopping mall, in the early afternoon. We walked, or let me rephrase that, I walked and pushed him in his stroller and we shared a pizza for lunch.

Yesterday, Niko and I met my parents for breakfast at Las Palapas, a Mexican restaurant that has really good breakfast tacos. We shared cheese enchiladas, a bacon and egg breakfast taco, an egg and cheese breakfast taco, and hot homemade tortillas. After, Niko and I went to Target as I wanted to get Nina a few more little things for Christmas. And, after that, we had smoothies at Jamba Juice.
