Yesterday, Niko and I sorted thru the majority of his toys; some of them ended up in a huge donate box, some of them we threw away, and the rest we kept. For the ones we kept, I organized similar toys into bins. Our play areas looks a lot better now that everything has been put away. It wasn’t messy to begin with, but sometimes when we clean-up, it’s just easier to throw everything into a box. And, throw that box into a corner.
I had absolutely no second thoughts when it came to my matchbox cars; I kept most them of them from my childhood. I had car carrying cases that I would bring to friends houses and we would play cars together. Niko likes the emergency vehicles and the trucks; the rest I put in donate box. He doesn’t need 300 cars, especially when he spills the entire box of cars on the floor and I step on them barefooted. Now, he has less than 100! It will be easier to find his favorites. Yes, I kept some of favorites and even one from the year 1970; most of the cars are from the early to mid 80’s.
Watching Niko play with cars brings back a lot of fond childhood memories and he even uses sound effects when he drives them. Let me tell you, he makes a really loud siren!
The only other thing I have from my childhood is a small box of regular sized legos and next time I visit my parents or they visit us, I will get that box for Niko to play with. Nina asked if she could clean them beforehand and of course, I said of of course. I have no clue how long they have been sitting in a box in my parents garage.
I kept telling him that we need to do this so we can make room for new toys!
Trust me, he has a lot of toys and asking him if we can give something to another baby is like asking him what is the difference between basketball and football?
Mainly, because when I ask him questions, he doesn’t answer me. So, I have to use my best judgement in hopes it’s right. I do give him choices when I don’t get an answer. It’s really funny when my choices revolve around food. If he doesn’t like anything, I tell him OK then, we won’t eat. Usually, that threat helps him realize that he is hungry and he eventually does it something. And, if he asks for something to eat and we have it in stock, I am most of the time happy to give it to him; unless it’s a really bad food.
On Friday, Niko and I met my Mom at Best Buy; Niko wanted to get a pair of kids Bluetooth headphones. Yes, we did get him that. Afterwards, the three of us went to Target and I had to give him choices for what kind of toy he could get; he was so distracted by firetrucks both big and small. He finally settled on 2 small monster trucks and of course, a Reese’s candy bar at the checkout line! For lunch, I gave him 3 choices: eat with grandma and the ladies, eat with grandpas at their house, or eat at Freddy’s. He chose…GRANDPA!
