This week, Niko has been very interested in forts. And, I am happy to help him build them; whether it be on the staircase landing or in the upstairs loft. Niko gets posters, tops of plastic bins, pillows, and blankets from the house supply. Now, these posters aren’t normal size; no, they are two of them and they are 40 x 60! Yes, you read that right. They are both Beatles posters and even though I have had them for a long time, one of them is already damaged to the point of throw it away and the other is close behind, I am not at all upset about it. Niko is enjoying them and that is all that matters. Several weeks ago, I was unpacking a Beatles fragile box and came across a Magical Mystery Tour bus ceramic cookie jar and it’s one of 10,000 that were made. I gave it to Niko and told him to be very careful because if it breaks, it is gone forever. So far, he has been very careful and loves putting snacks in it. Just like the posters, I have had that cookie jar for a very long time and as long as he enjoys it, I don’t care what happens to it.
If I could find something else he can use so the other one doesn’t get damaged to throw it away, I will do a poster swap. We actually use the posters on the staircase on both sides of the cat gate so the cat can’t get upstairs in the evening. If he did, he would meow very very very very loudly outside our door and Niko’s door; waking everybody up. The first night we had the gate up on the staircase, he jumped over it! So, we brought in reinforcements and so far , it has worked.
Back to the forts…
Niko is an excellent engineer and he always wants to have company in them when the forts are finished. Sometimes, it does fall down and we both laugh. Sometimes, it actually stays together and we have a fun time having a sleepover in them.
My brother; whom is 4 years older than me, and I would build forts when we much younger. My parents house had an indoor playroom and in that playroom was a small square table. We would put a large blanket over each of the sides and that was our fort. Very simple!
I know on our Amazon wish list for Niko, we have an indoor play tent! Maybe will be buying that very soon for Niko.
