As much as I love having Niko with me, sometimes it’s just easier when I do stuff alone.
On Saturday’s, I take Niko somewhere without Nina; she stays home and cooks and cleans! No, I am kidding. She works her job as a stylist for Stitchfix.com. Plus, that is basically the only time she really gets to herself. Well, when we leave her, the cat finds her and wants her full undivided attention.
Last Saturday, I was going to take Niko to CVS, breakfast, Home Depot, and either Discount Tire or a bike shop; we needed air in all the stroller tires. But, when I asked him if he wanted to go out with me, he said NO! I was like, OK. Probably because he didn’t want to take his pajamas off and wear shorts and a shirt. For the past several weeks, he only wants to long sleeves! And, where we live, it’s hot. So, I ended up doing my errands while he napped and it was quicker and easier for me. When I got home, Niko had just woken up and Nina ran out to the grocery store. Nina enjoys doing grocery shopping on her own.
On Sunday, we were planning on going to Sea World in San Antonio. The day before and the day of, we kept preparing him by telling him we have to wear shorts and a shirt. Well, when it got time to get him out of his pajamas and into cooler clothes, he screamed, he cried, he stiffened his body up, he took the shorts and shirt off as soon as I put them on him, he took his socks off as soon as I put them on his feet, and he was very mad at us. It took 30 minutes and 2 mature adults to get him in shorts and a shirt. I carried him to the car so he couldn’t take his clothes off. He was still mad and screaming; saying I don’t want to go! I put his shoes and socks on while he was in the car seat. When we finally arrived at Sea World, he didn’t want to get out of the car. But, I got him out anyway and he got distracted by his grandparents who had met us there; my Dad’s a Veteran and got free tickets because of that. Niko ended up having a really good time at Sea World; we will probably get a season pass later in the year when it is cooler outside.
Yesterday, Niko and I did go out to breakfast, Target, I got a haircut, and we had drinks at Kneaders. My parents met us for the errands and it’s always nice to have extra help. Sometimes, you just need to say yes to Niko and avoid the screaming and crying; basically, I allowed him to wear long sleeve pants and a long sleeve shirt. Yes, we were hot. When we got home, I tried to get him to take a cold shower with me, but he wanted to sit outside the shower and play on my phone while I showered. I needed a shower after the haircut.
After his nap on Saturday, Nina and I put on our bathing suits and we got him in his shirt and bathing suit after a lot of screaming and crying. I put him in the car, but he stiffened his body and I couldn’t buckle him in; I tried a few times. No success. Hey, we are trying! Even tried to bribe him with ice cream. Again, I really hope this is a phase and it ends soon.
Today, when Niko woke up, he told me he had some pee on his sheet and thus, we changed his sheets and also took his pajamas on. Yes, he screamed and cried as I put pants and a shirt on him; because all of his pajamas were dirty. But, I told him we would gather all the dirty pajamas and wash them first. And, when they are ready, we can put a clean pair on, which we did.
For the first time since he was born and as I am writing this sentence, Niko is sitting next to me on the upstairs couch in his pajamas while watching Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. It is very nice and quiet; the cat is downstairs and Nina is grocery shopping.
