So now that my birthday and Niko’s birthday are over and we have been in our new house for a few weeks, it is time for me to start eating better.
It’s not like I have been eating bad things and drinking lots of soda constantly and frequenting fast food restaurants. Just a few times, actually!
This is what I am going to do:
No soda
No cheese
No fast food
Eat more fruits and vegetables
Limit chocolate/ice cream/or any other sweet deserts
Limit the rice and pasta to a smaller portion
Don’t eat fried foods
I know I can do it and hopefully, I will notice a difference soon.
Back to my birthday briefly…
It was on April 23 and I took the day off; my time off extended for a few more days so we could unpack a little bit. Nina brought my some paperback books and took me to the post office, lunch, and Old Navy. Hey, I got mail, food, and clothes. And, the icing on the cake was a shake from Freddy’s. I appreciated the books but prefer Kindle books and I already provided her a list for Father’s Day. I will eventually read the paperback books, but it is going to take time.
My parents and Nina’s Dad and stepmom got me Amazon gift cards. I know it’s boring and not creative, but I really like it because I can buy anything on Amazon. Most likely, it will be a few books, but I will wait till after Father’s Day.
Back to Niko’s 3rd birthday…
Niko’s birthday was on May 2 and I took that day and the following day off. On his birthday, we took him the to children’s museum in San Antonio; it was larger than the one in New Braunfels and when we left, Nina purchased a yearly membership for her and Niko. Niko got a homemade Daniel Tiger chocolate birthday cake! In addition to being a wife and a mother, Nina is a very good baker and the 3 of us get spoiled by everything she makes.
On the next day, Niko and I went to the post office again; OK, so, we had to pickup our keys for our mailbox. Yep fun times! Then, we met my parents for breakfast at Las Palapas, a local Tex-Mex restaurant; it’s Niko’s favorite place for breakfast tacos and I enjoy it also. Two of them are very close to our new house, unlike being 30 minutes away from where we used to live. After breakfast, the 4 of us went to Barnes and Noble. One thing Niko will always have available is books; our new house has room for a lot of bookcases and IKEA has supplied all of them. I think next weekend, Nina will make a solo trip to IKEA for more bookcases and other things; Niko is excited because I will put the car-seat in my car so we can do something.
My parents brought Niko a play kitchen from IKEA and I learned a valuable lesson: Don’t assemble anything when Niko is present. I was on step 15 and Niko took the wrench and put it somewhere where nobody could find it. Now, I have other wrenches from other IKEA pieces, but none of them fit. Luckily, IKEA support on Twitter is sending me a new one! Way to go IKEA! As soon as it arrives, I can finish assembling it and Niko can cook in the kitchen; we already have a great place for it in our kitchen.
Nina’s Dad and stepmom brought Niko a water table and I put it together on Wednesday night. It was waiting for Niko and water on Thursday morning when Niko and I went outside to enjoy the fresh air. Niko’s eyes lit up as I put water in it and showed him all the cool things it does. He loves playing with water! And, the great thing is it doesn’t hurt anybody and it can’t be broken.
