On St. Patrick’s Day weekend, we were very lucky.
That Friday morning, we had 2 showings; this was after we took the house down for a week and relisted it with a new agent and pictures. Our house was on the market already for about 2 weeks. An hour after the 1st showing, we got a text from our agent saying an offer is on its way to us. I was excited but didn’t want to get my hopes up.
On Saturday morning as Niko and I were having breakfast with my parents, I got another text from our agent and it said the offer has been emailed to us. After several texts with her and my wife, we accepted it.
On Sunday, the three of us went to the neighborhood where we wanted to move and signed a contract on a house.
It will be very nice having a larger house, a fenced in backyard, and a garage. Oh, the amenities in the neighborhood are awesome. Plus, we will be closer to things to do with Niko and my parents will be much closer.
On Thursday we closed on our old house and new house. On Friday, we moved! Both those days were stressful and long, especially Friday. I am very glad I am taking some time off next week to help unpack and get our new house in order; or just unpacked enough so Niko can have all of his toys accessible!
Back to Thursday…
My parents came over early in the morning and stayed all day with Niko. It would’ve been hard having Niko with us for both closings. One closing was in New Braunfels; which is about 30 minutes from us and the other one was close to our new house in San Antonio; which is about an hour from New Braunfels. So, yeah, Niko would’ve been in the car for a long time! But, you know something, it was very nice having some alone time with Nina and we had time to talk about stuff, get some food, do some quick shopping, and even stopped by the new house to drop off the first load of stuff!
Back to Friday…
First thing in the morning, Nina took the cat to the vet and Niko to my parents and I stayed at the house to wait for the movers and as they removed our stuff, I got to clean behind them. Yeah, fun times mopping, vacuuming, and sweeping and a lot of old man grunts from me as some spots needed hand scrubbing. My parents and I switched cars on Thursday and I very much needed the extra cargo space in their Saturn SUV as I had a buch of things to put in it. Nina left me empty laundry baskets, boxes, and lots of cleaning supplies. The cat got picked up by Nina’s mom land she brought him to our new house. When the movers finished, Nina picked up Niko and took him to our new house. During that time while Nina was alone, she ran to Target, Walmart, the local grocery store, she setup Niko’s room, she setup the cat area, she watched our new fridge get delivered, and she made sure we all had clean sheets and clean clothes for that evening! Unlike our old house, we won’t be gating off a portion of the kitchen so Niko can’t get into the cat litter, cat food, or cat water. We actually purchased and I put it together with Niko’s help a few weeks ago, a piece of furniture where Franklin can do his business inside of it. So, Franklin and Niko will learn to co-exist. The only gate we will be putting up is on the staircase and we will have baby doorlocks on some of the doors. Recently, Niko has started to use the bathroom on his own so we have been leaving it open for him. It’s really surreal seeing him go in and do his business; yes, he has pooped on his own. And, yes, he has gotten everything messy with poop; ask Nina about it!
Before I left the old house alone, I grabbed a large rock as a momento and as I pulled out of the driveway, I took one final look and said silently thanks for the great memories! And, I didn’t hit any deer!
I know Niko will be very helpful as we unpack everything.
It will be fun for Nina and I as we get to buy some new furniture; bookcases, a desk, and a desk chair just to name a few and we already got our 1st Amazon delivery on Friday at our new house. Nina had to provide Amazon with some extra delivery instructions as our neighborhood is fairly new.
I really need to thank my parents as they came over as much as we needed them at the old house to play with Niko while Nina packed and packed and packed. We even dropped Niko at their house a few times so we could do a walkthrough on the new house, do both closings, and move!
Best birthday gift for me! Mine is on Tuesday and I won’t tell you how old I will be.
Best Birthday gift for Niko! His 3rd birthday is on May 2.
Best Mothers Day gift for Nina!
