I am very thankful that Nina’s birthday happens to be on or very close to Labor Day and I can enjoy either a very nice 3-day weekend or I can take Friday off and enjoy a very nice 4-day weekend; I chose a 4-day weekend this year. I got some good naps in, consumed a lot of food, and got my steps in by chasing and playing with Niko. How can I forget that I also saw a lot of Nina as she also had a very nice 4-day weekend off with no work.
On Friday, we ordered takeout from a very nice Italian restaurant within walking distance; pizza, fried calamari, and cake.
On Saturday morning, we had breakfast an always restaurant in New Braunfels; I had a quiche with fruit and I ate some of Niko’s scrambled eggs and pancakes, Nina’s bacon, and we all shared a large piece of boned-in-ham.
We got home from breakfast at 11:30am and my parents were coming over at noon to babysit Niko so Nina and I could go to a movie. Yes, that is what she wanted to do and I was happy to do it; cheap date – popcorn, a drink, and tickets (spent less than $25)! We were going to put Niko down for nap around 1pm and escape! But, at 12:15pm, we got a showing request for 1pm! Hey, it could be the one! So, Nina ran upstairs and got it ready and my mom and I cleaned the 1st floor. We were done and out of the house at 12:45pm and went to Dairy Queen down the street for ice cream for all and an orange Julius for me. All in all, we only had to do everything an hour late and, hopefully, it was worth it! As soon as we sat in the movies theater, we got another showing request, but this one was for the next day. The movie we saw was Crazy Rich Asians and it wasn’t my favorite move and it wasn’t my worst; actually, I enjoyed it and didn’t have to think about who did what to whom and why they want revenge. I will admit that I got watery eyes several times throughout the movie. One of these days, I will express my emotions and cry at sad/happy moments just like I did when Niko was born.
On Sunday, the day of Nina’s birthday, the showing request requested to come a little bit early and we said yes; again, hopefully, it will be worth it. In less than 30 minutes, our house was ready and we just drove around the neighborhood for a few minutes. For nap, Niko slept in his crib, I slept in the bedroom, and Nina relaxed downstairs in addition to making her own birthday cake. She wanted to make her own and she is a really good cook, I enjoy eating everything she makes and never complain about cleaning everything up; even if we did use all of our bowls! After nap, Niko and I took a long dip in our redneck $20 Target pool; he was naked and I was only wearing boxers. He had such a fun time playing with water that it didn’t feel like an hour. It was also very pleasant and nice that Nina’s mom came by and had dinner and desert with us.
Monday, we stayed home and Nina did a lot of cooking; she usually does it on Sunday’s. She made meatloaf, pork, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, muffins, and cut up a lot of fruit for all us. Niko does really well and knows when the kitchen isn’t safe.
Our lawn guy came by in the morning and Niko was so excited to see him, that he had his shoes on as soon as we got downstairs. As I walked with Niko to greet Frank and his son, Niko said I love them both and shook Frank’s hand. We finished watching Singing in the Rain; it’s one of Nina’s favorites movies and I also just finished a book about Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher by Todd Fisher.
You know something, the best birthday gift for Nina would be if one of these showings made as an offer.
