I just finished a book by Arianna Huffington called The Sleep Revolution. Basically, we need more sleep without interruptions, technology, and sleeping pills. With better sleep, we are more productive.
I have always been a great sleeper and almost everyday, I get 8 hours of sleep. Yes, when Niko was born, my sleep patterns were very different, but now they are back on schedule and have been since he started sleeping thru the night about a year ago. I have also started to take naps on the weekend when he naps and that is nice. I could spend that time reading or writing, but I enjoy sleeping. I work hard during the week at my full-time job, I work hard as a husband, I work hard as a father, and a nap is always refreshing for me. Niko and I both have crazy hair when we wake-up from naps; sometimes Nina naps with me and I enjoy seeing her napping and not working or cooking.
I don’t rely on anything to help put me to sleep nor do I need anything to keep me alert throughout the day. I used to drink a lot of soda, but since 2015, I have kicked that bad habit to the curb and only drink them occasionally now. To be honest, when I drink a soda these days, it doesn’t do anything for me; I just drink it mostly because it’s cold and it’s hot outside.
It’s also very easy for me to be instantly woken up to a screaming or crying baby across the hall, do whatever needs to be done to get him to go back to sleep, and go back to sleep; all without missing a beat.
So, sometimes, it will take me longer to go sleep and that is because I am either thinking about something or am trying to craft words together.
I am going to make a few changes in the evening and it mainly involves making sure I continue to get at least 8 hours of sleep, putting my phone away in the evening; only use it too look at the baby camera, and I just purchased an Amazon Kindle so I can read in bed; it’s better for the eyes.
