I have been planning on taking Niko out for an entire morning and bringing him back for nap for a few weeks; mainly so Nina could get some free quiet time alone in the house. She is home all day with him during the week and doesn’t get any quiet time at home and I know she would appreciate it.
Well, that happened yesterday as I took Niko for breakfast, we went to two shoe stores for me, and we picked up our online grocery store order. My mom and dad met us and he was happier to see them than to be with me!
BREAKFAST
So, I think he ate my mom’s breakfast tacos because he wanted her to feed him and not me. Hey, I was happy to eat a warm meal! Oh, he likes salsa!
He does really good at restaurants and he is very interested in everybody and everything; plus, he is like his dad as he likes to eat.
SHOE STORES
Niko loves shoes and I knew I couldn’t go in alone with him because he would grab every box off the shelf. But, with my parents, he was actually distracted and behaved very well. He even had a pair of shoes that lit up and I had to tell him not yet for those; a very nice employee measured his feet and brought him the shoes.
On the very short drive to the shoe stores, he wanted my mom and dad to sit in the back with him and they happily obliged. He enjoys having company and when I sit back there, his little face lights up with happiness and lots of laughs.
GROCERIES
I just have to say that it’s so much quicker to order our groceries online and pick them up at the store; especially when you have a 2-year old. The coolest thing is they even load up your car and sometimes, they will give you a free cookie.
POTTY TRAINING
On the way home, I smelled POO and I asked Niko if he pooped in the car seat? His reply was YES. So, my follow up question was can you wait 10 minutes and we will be home. His reply again was YES. It really stunk and I was prepared for a huge mess. When I got home and looked at his butt, it was sparkly clean! He has been trying for a few days to get that poo out and he sits on the little potty and Nina and I are next to him; armed with wipes and words of praise. I did bring the little potty with me just in case. After we finished breakfast, he was sitting on it in the back of the car and my mom and I took our eyes off him for less than a second and in that second, he peed and it totally missed the potty and went straight out of the and onto the gravel; it didn’t hit me and my mom! I just laughed! Another parent walking nearby with her family saw Niko sitting on the potty and she smiled and said done that! A few days ago, we were feeding Niko in his highchair and he wasn’t wearing shorts because we knew he was trying to get that same poo out. Well, after I took his tray so I could clean it, he peed and Nina and I were both surprised and impressed by the pee stream and it only got on the floor. Tonight, he did 2 poops in the little potty and I know he was glad as he’s been trying to get them out for several days. I feel bad when I know he has to poo and I can’t help him; all I can do is rub his belly and sing him songs and tell him it’s going to be alright.
I was very much looking forward to taking a nap when he napped when we arrived home, but we had a showing request for our house scheduled for 2 hours later. Nina was already cleaning the upstairs and I cleaned the downstairs. We make a good team and it looked really nice when we left; now, let’s hope they liked it enough to make us an offer. Yeah, we are eager to sell and buy a new one!
I don’t get enough time with Niko so this was a very nice daddy and baby day out. I will definitely do this again for Nina in a few weeks.
