Monday was Day 3 of potty training and while I was sitting in my work cubicle doing my leftover work from Friday, assigning our department emails, researching accounts that are scheduled for 2018 escheatment, opening our department mail, depositing customer checks that we got in the mail, and helping another department research government benefits received after a customer dies and returning them if it was received after date of death, Niko was peeing in the potty with a little bit of help from mom and even some books and mom’s phone in his hands. When I arrived home, I was so happy to sit next to Niko while he peed; man, it felt great for me! I even got Niko to poo in the potty without anything coming out until he sat down. And, when he finished, it was stinky and big! Yes, he got some leftover cake from the weekend.
On Tuesday, he did a few pees outside the potty and a few in the potty. I got him to pee in the potty when I came home and a few minutes later, he was acting like he had to poo so I got him to go back on the potty and sit; well, nothing happened. Just some stinky farts! When I took him upstairs for night-time, I really thought he had to pee because he always pees as soon as he gets in bathtub. Nina and I tried to get him to sit on the big toilet, but he didn’t want any piece of that and screamed. Well, tomorrow, we will bring his potty upstairs with us.
On the 5th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me NO ACCIDENTS. Nina even put some shorts on Niko for a few hours. We did bring his potty upstairs, but he didn’t do anything; he was distracted by boobs – just like his dad! Now, tomorrow will be interesting because my parents are coming over to watch and play with Niko while Nina works, cooks, and cleans – we have a showing Friday morning. It’s not that my parents are incapable of potty training him; they did good with me and I am not sure of my older brother, they just need to really watch him and not be embarrassed by his naked body. Why did I say good for me? Well, I am an early flusher and I can’t help it. I am proud to tell you I have great aim; whether it be in the dark, holding a baby, or being poked by my wife on my face, I always hit the center!
Today, Niko again had no pee accidents and I guess my parents survived Niko’s potty training as well because I didn’t get any calls or texts from them about it. We are still waiting for another poo; hopefully one will come out tomorrow while I am at work. Tonight, as I was feeding him dinner, he told me he had to pee. So, I got the tray off his highchair, unbuckled him, picked him up, went over the baby gate that goes from wall-to-wall in our house, sat him on the potty, and he peed. He got up so quickly that I was afraid he was still peeing, but he wasn’t. Then, I cleaned it up and we went back to eating dinner.
One of my hardest things is calling it potty and not the toilet. He is still trying to figure everything out. I mean, it probably feels really weird for him not to be wearing a diaper. My favorite part of this is seeing him naked!
Probably this weekend, we will put shorts on him and show him how to pull them off to use the potty. Naps and night-time potty training will come in a few weeks. We didn’t want to do everything at once. Since we started last Saturday, Niko has also had a little cold.
