Yesterday, we started the first day of potty training for Niko; naps and night-time will come later. He already knows when he has to pee and poo, so I was really hoping he would catch on fast. I mean, for the past several months, every time I had to use the toilet, my little boy stopped doing whatever he was doing at that particular time and ran to me with his hands up; that means, take me with you! And, of course, I took him. When I pee, it is challenging for me since I always hold him in my right hand, but I need my right hand to hold my penis and aim for the toilet; so, I have to switch Niko to my left side. He then looks down at what I am doing, looks at me, looks at the naked lady on the wall, hugs me, kisses my head, looks at the light switches, and does a lot of talking. When I have to sit, I have to lock the door because he can open it up and walk out into the “not baby proofed” kitchen. The bathroom cabinet is baby proofed, so all I have to do is move the stuff on the counter-top further from his hands reach and move the toilet paper so he doesn’t unroll it. When I am finished, he likes to see what I did and help me wipe; don’t call CPS because I don’t let him do that, I show him.
For the past week, we have been telling him what will be happening and he seemed interested, mainly because he gets to be naked. I wasn’t at all concerned about him peeing or pooing everywhere because he doesn’t do that when we strip him naked. Only a few times, has he peed on me while I was getting ready for his bath.
All day yesterday, we didn’t put a diaper on him and when he had to pee or poo, we told him to go to his potty. I had to keep a close eye on him so I wouldn’t miss anything. Well, he peed twice and it wasn’t in the potty. We didn’t make a big deal; we just told him next time, let’s use the potty and of course, he helped us clean it up. I even took him outside and brought the potty outside also; he was too interested in the world until mom filled a big bowl with water and then he filled the potty with water. When he did that, I thought that he was going to do it! He did sit on it once before dinner for less than 10 seconds because mom told him if he pees in the potty, he can get cake. Man, even that got me motivated. So, as soon as he sat down, I was in my position and aimed his penis down; nothing happened, except for a lot of screaming. He did end up peeing a lot in the bathtub and that is OK.
On Day 2 of potty training, he still didn’t pee in the potty, but we did get a poop in the potty. We can tell when he needs to poo and as soon he started and I saw a little poo coming out; luckily the potty was very close, Nina and I had him sit down which he did to finish. I pointed his penis down in case he needed to pee. He didn’t resist us and he sat until he finished. So, he finally got to have a piece of cake.
Oh, after he used his potty, we all went to the bathroom, put it in the toilet, and he flushed it. I am so proud of him. If he does pee in the potty tomorrow, I will be a little bit sad since I got to go to work. But, hopefully, Nina will take lots of videos and pictures so I can see it.
I will have a lot more updates on potty training.
Besides potty training today, we had a showing request for our house so Nina and I were scrambling to get it in tip top shape; ours always looks really great and better than a lot of the ones we see. We had planned on taking Niko for a walk during the showing request; which ended up being almost 2 hours since they were running late. What we didn’t plan on was him not napping and being downstairs an hour before the showing. It’s hard because he wants to play and we also need to keep the house cleaned. But, we always manage to make everything nice; so what if we have a box in the living room! No naps do happen with Niko and as long as he is in the crib for an hour and not hurting himself, we are OK with it. Our planned walk with Niko went well, except for the last 20 minutes when we fell asleep. He was so sleepy that I was able to wheel the stroller in the house without waking him up. We watched him sleep while we sat on the sofa and took photos of him; because why not! What woke him up was a pee!
